I thought this would be the first place Paul would post it.

For those of you that may be interested, I am in a new project called THESE ARE THEY. I started this with the original guitarist and other founding member of Novembers Doom, and we haven't played together in almost 15 years.
We kept it quiet until we recorded some material, so check it out at www. myspace. com/thesearetheychicago or click the link in my friends section, and check it out.

Here's the press release as well!

THESE ARE THEY, a new Chicago death metal band featuring vocalist Paul Kuhr (NOVEMBERS DOOM), Guitarist Steve Nicholson (ex-NOVEMBERS DOOM), Guitarist Michael LeGros (DISINTER, EARTHEN), Bassist Wiley Wells (Earthen) and Drummer Evan Berry, have completed their first recording.

Thirteen years since the release of the NOVEMBERS DOOM debut, "Amid Its Hallowed Mirth," and the departure of Nicholson from the group, founding members Paul Kuhr and Steve Nicholson have reunited to create something new.

Guitar driven, down tuned, and powerful, the material is old school Chicago death metal, with influence added from some band favorites such as Bolt Thrower, Obituary, and Entombed. The songs contain all the head banging hook you would expect from this style.

THESE ARE THEY will begin looking for a label, to release a debut full length in the near future.
A full track entitled "The Indweller" can be heard on the bands MySpace page at: www. myspace. com/thesearetheychicago

Pretty brutal stuff here, Paul!

Sounds good.
Reminds me of BLOODBATH at first listen.
Also, I really like the use of the clean vocals in the middle of the Indweller. Good showcase of Paul's vocal abilities.

Hell yeah! Good stuff there! :headbang:

So I guess with this and tour in Jan we shouldn't expect any new ND material for the next year or so?:err:

These are They and Novembers Doom are two separate entities. Novembers Doom is in full writing mode at the moment, and will not be on hold in any way. No worries!

These Are They started as a project, after meeting up with Steve one night for a drink, after we hadn't seen one another for a long time. We talked about it for awhile, and decided to see how it went. If ND and TAT sound a bit alike, well, seeing it's me and the original ND guitarist, it's hard to be 100% different when it's cut from the same cloth. We did our best to make it different, and the plans we have for the full length will move TAT in a faster direction. MORE DEATH METAL. hahaha

I didn't post the news here first, because I didn't want to use the ND forum as a tool to promote something that isn't ND. I knew it would be brought up eventually here, and that's fine, but let's keep the TAT to this one thread.

As for Subterranean Masquerade, the last I heard Tomer was writing, and he had material for me to hear. That was a long time ago already, and since he lives in Israel now, it makes it harder to stay in touch. Not sure of it's future, if there is a future, and if I'm even involved in it.

And, as far as These Are They goes, we recorded 3 songs, and are deciding what to do with them, so a demo might be made available, we may give them away for free on MySpace... We just don't know yet.

Out of respect for the present line-up of Novembers Doom and their brilliant accomplishments over the years, we decided right off the bat not to introduce TAT here on ND's forum, even though we are from the ND "Family" of Metal. Maybe in the future we'll start our own forum here. But as Paul wishes, we should use one thread for TAT.

I have no problem at all with people discussing it here, obviously this project will be of great interest to many ND fans, and rightfully so. Maybe at some point if there's enough interest you guys can make one of those "sub-forums" for TAT like I've seen for other band's forums when they have additional projects? It'd make sense for it to be closely connected with the ND forum in some way anyhow since you're going to get alot of the same people interested in both :)

Oh and to answer a question from earlier (that Paul already addressed as well)....any additional musical projects that any of us in ND take up will not affect our progress with Novembers Doom whatsoever. Vito and I are currently putting alot of focus on trying to write new material, Paul already has some vocal/conceptual ideas formed, and the artwork has already been moving along steadily, so we've already gotten quite a bit accomplished behind the scenes. Between that, the upcoming tour in Jan., the show with SIGH in Sept., and some other possible things on the way, there's still plenty of ND activity ahead, no worries.

Steve it's good to hear ya still shredding like a mad man!

*shakes head and sighs*

Paul has discussed the idea of doing something that got back to our Chicago death metal roots long before anyone had even heard of Bloodbath.

We just can't ever escape it, can we Paul?

Sorry, didn't mean to offend you guys.

Bloodbath thing? What the hell are you talking about?

This isn't a reaction to anything, other then Steve and I wanting to jam together again. Nothing more, nothing less.

Well it sounds good. I'm looking forward to hearing more songs.
