Thirteenth Day 2005 Launches
It's official. Thirteenth Day 2005 has launched and a new era for British Metal has arrived.
Metal will take a new form - in the guise of a new indoor metal festival. Birmingham Academy will play host to 2,500 metal heads and seven bands over the course of one day on Sunday July 24th 2005.
Headlining the festival will be Sonata Arctica - the Finnish metal legends.
Sonata Arctica have only ever played the UK once before and are eager to return to some of their most dedicated fans. Their July show will be the first chance to see them perform their new material live in the UK. Sonata Arctica have supported bands such as Nightwish in the past and are no stranger to fame with a recent nomination in the Finnish Grammys and a gold record under their belt. Sonata have announced no other UK shows this summer - so this will be your only chance to see them.
Also announced to play Thirteenth Day are fellow Finnish band Norther - playing their first ever UK show. Having been overlooked for years we thought that it was about time that somebody bought them over to the UK. So here they are. It's been almost 10 years since their friends in Children of Bodom first set them up with some practice space and they've come a long way. With a new EP planned for this summer, Norther are a band that you won't want to miss.
Along with the two main headline acts, Intense and Season's End have both been added to the festival's line-up. After a triumphant Bloodstock 2004 performance the band were voted "Most wanted to play again" on the Bloodstock forums. A few months later and their material receiving airplay on Scuzz meant that we couldn't help but bring them back this summer. Season's End are, by many, described to be England's answer to Nightwish. With soaring female vocals that fill a room they are a fitting band to open the first ever Thirteenth Day Festival.
Joining the line-up will be more British and European bands to be confirmed over the next few weeks. Regardless of whether you're a fan of Scuzz, or in to your Euro-metal, Thirteenth Day will offer something for you.
Tickets are on sale now priced £18.00 for the entire day. Tickets are available direct from Birmingham Academy's box office, over the telephone on 0870 771 2000, from Ticket Web at www.ticketweb.co.uk or from See Tickets at www.SeeTickets.com.
Birmingham Academy is located in the centre of Birmingham and is easily accessible by car, coach, train or bus. Car parking will be available for the whole day in a car park adjacent to the venue. The Academy has played host to thousands of famous acts over the years and what better place to run a metal festival than just a miles from the creation of modern metal - the original home of Black Sabbath.
Room Thirteen will be sponsoring the festival as an online partner - providing up to date news on the event. This will be available direct to your desktop with Room Thirteen's unique RSS news feeds. During and after the event Room Thirteen will be providing photos, reviews and interviews of every band at the festival.
Thirteenth Day promises to be one of the freshest and best festivals of the year. For a metal fan to miss it would be a crime.
