This fortin modded Jcm800 just kills

Maurizio. I've had this YouTube clip saved in my favs for a long time. This is THE tone for me - I absolutely fucking love it man. Even with just this 2203 JCM800, there are a slew of mods done to this amp in order to get it to sound like this.
Mike Fortin lives in the town next to me and would love to pick his brain about all the mods done to this amp. The guitar work in this clip was done by the guitar player from The Salads, a Canadian band.
This amp just slays man!!! :kickass:

Dunno what's wrong with me - starting to like Marshall amps a lot.

Fortin's mod must've done worlds for this thing though, as I've heard JCM800s trying to do metal before and it was never quite like this.

This amp was one of the prototypes that preceded the Natas prototype. It has the girth and grind controls, which affect the gain control of the amp. I had the pleasure of playing this one at one of the Fortin ampfests, and it was pretty killer. I happen to like the Natas quite a bit more though :)

LMAO - :Spin: Nothing wrong with you man - you're just feeling the Marshall love, with an swift triple kick in the balls from Mike Fortin!!!

I'm addicted to this tone.
HELL YEAH I LOVE IT

Can I make a stock JCM800 (with a boost in front of course) sound almost like this?
if not I have to buy a fortin Natas then

I dunno man - Greg mentioned the Girth and Grind controls which really affect the Gain in the circuit. I would think that you would at least need to do a depth mod to the JCM800 in order to get closer to this, that and add the treble booster. But check this for tone only (the playing is shite):

I used a JCm 800 at the record im doing right now. Super smooth but it got a bit annoying mids which is my prejudice against marshall, the bass knob is affecting the wrong frequencies, and the mids are more around 1000-1500hz then around 500-800 so no matter what you do you end up with annoying mids.
5150 and JCM for rythm, really nice combo. But this was more a hard rock act

Super smooth though, really something special for leads but i finding it hard for it to be a good metal amp.

btw, I'm not super knowledgeable about the amps tonestacks, but in Marshalls are the tone controls usually before or after the preamp distortion and FX-loop? Because if they are between the preamp and fx loop, couldn't you in theory just use a hardware EQ in the FX loop (if it's serial and not parallel like in Mesa's for example) and just use that for tonal controls?

Awesome tone.

I was a marshall hater in my teens, but I only knew the Mode Four, MG and TSL series ^^

Quite a revaltion when I heared all the nice JCM800 clips, and I finally understood all the obsession with those marshall thingies
