I like the opening line bothers to point out that one expert was left "stunned" by the discovery. It makes it sound as if he's currently recovering under medical attention now as a result of the find or something like that.

that struck me as well. if one expert is "stunned" does that mean the rest are merely slightly interested, or are there different gradients of astronomer giddiness such as "intrigued" and "happily baffled"
