Fellow Prog'ers.

I will be in the Austin TX area in Feb, weekend of the 16-18th.

I'd love to find a place to go in the evenings....LIVE METAL preferred...

And maybe hook up with a local-ProgPower brother(or sister).

All help appreciated!!!

ROCKON !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well i live in El Paso Texas but shit we are 10 hours from Austin. But i do know some people there ie. Drew Creel from the Prog band MEYVN, he might be able to give you some tips and who knows they might be playing a warm up for their touring this summer.

agh, you suck! Missing HW & Theocracy here in ATL on the 17th!!!!!!

But Austin is worthy, my father in law lives there and we go there annually. The Back Room is the metal club, also Red Eyed Fly. Really, anywhere on 5th & 6th streets you can find something cool to do.....

Alas, the Backroom is no more. It closed a few months ago. Red Eyed Fly is probably your best bet for hard rock. Austin is not really a metal town, but if you're willing to branch out there is always something good somewhere. It's hard to go wrong at the Continental Club, Saxon Pub, or Antones.

Post a reminder about a week before and I'll be happy to look into it for you.

OK.....there is something wrong if you can travel 10 hours and still be in the same State!!!!:erk:

Thanks for the replies....looking forward to my road-trip:kickass: , even though it is for work !!!!!

How is RED RUM?

Ever been there?

Redrum is where most of the local metal bands in Austin play now, its a great place but the sound system leaves something to be desired... there's a great show on the 16th with some

Red Eyed Fly is another place, the stage is outdoors - Feb. 16th Powderburn is playing, Feb 17th is Broken Teeth (Jason McMaster's current band), both great bands...

Got to go to Red Eyed Fly.....pretty cool place....cold , though....saw Dixie Witch and Brooken Teeth.....both very good!!!!

The club across the Street, Room 710 was pretty good, too!! More punk/hardcore......

Bourbon Rocks had a cool cover band......

Did not get to go to The Red Rum........

Austin is a pretty kik A$$ town...liked it alot.thanks for the heads-up...

Yep, it is! They're kinda proud to be the 'weirdest' city in Texas, which roughly translates as the most liberal-minded. Heck, unless they've changed things, topless bathing is still legal at Barton Springs. :)

Now, that's not my only reason for loving the place -- it's a great place to go swimming and snorkeling, second only to this place in Tennessee, IMO -- but it's probably the only municipal park in the country to allow it. :kickass:

That's funny, I saw Dixie Witch at REF at new year's 2006, which was the only time i've been there...coincidence.....
