I don't want to get into the whole "This band sucks" arguament, but I think their guitar sound on this tune rules. Anyone got any specifics or opinions?

I actually love bands like Three Days Grace, Breaking Benjamin, Chevelle, etc...

The production on that kind of stuff absolutely rules, too.

I'd venture to say that it's a Recto with a Royer 121, SM57, and MD421. That's a fairly standard mic setup for that style, from what I've seen.

Definitely a recto... at least thats what is in the video...

possibly a triple... definitely a 3 channel

If anyone records these style bands, could you let us know what amps you use and what settings. I am attempting to get that breaking benjamin, etc. sound out of a dual rectifier 3 channel and one sm57. Just not sure what settings I should be going with when quad tracking rythms. Seems my stuff comes out to fizzy.

dont forget that a huge key to those "guitar" sounds is a fucking HUGE distorto-bass sound.

and andy wallace

FYI both times I saw BB they were playing hughes and kettners, but I doubt thats what they recorded with

Well, most heavy rock and numetal have very clean sounding distortions. If you're quad tracking, you definitely need to turn your gain way down to the point where you think it's sounding too dry because it'll start getting crunchier with the more takes you have over it.
