I think mike has written some seriously great music but as far as the long classic tracks are concerned TNATSW has to be my top track. Structure, melody, acoustic passages, vocals, lyrical content, and overall emotion of the song is tremendous. Can mike excel his rediculous high standard, im not sure but the excited thinking about the new album and what direction the may take

if TNATSW is his peak, than he hasn't been able to match it for about 10 years already in your opinion? so from that view, I would be pessimistic for the next album if I were you.

however, I just think that their style shifted so much that you can not compare the music from back then with the music of later on.

THNfLD>TNATSW imo but GFFGP on GR and SL is far better than GLFJD on KDFDJS nOFN ANDAND SDFNOSDLGJODFK:LDKFJG:LDFJG:LK$JI#$960

Ghost of Perdition might be mikes creative peak. Its not my favorite song on the new album, but it flows so well, has amazing parts, and has just enough repeated parts to call it a song.

beutiful really.

We all know that Dirge for november is what opeth represents and also is their best song period. kthxbye

I think out of all the songs I've written "Isolation years" is probably the one I'm most happy about. I was nervous about recording the song as I was so pleased with the demo, but when I heard the final mix I was just like "Wow!"

Yet, nobody seem to share my opinion about it, but there you go, that's probably my fave so far at least.

"Silent waters" is a pretty good call from the early stuff, I was very pleased about the song when it was written, I just never cared for the recorded version.

Cheers
Mike

Isolation Years, eh? It is a great song, although in my opinion Opeth's creative peak was Still Life, the record consists only of classics, fantastic guitar arrangements, plus it's got the whole concept story going on.

its a shame mike had to see our immaturity haha.

I remember when GR came out, mike mentioned his wife cried the first time she heard the isolation years demo. thats amazing.

edit: Just came to me. While your around, mike whats your favorite Katatonia record? (saw them just the other day, amazing!)
