TNATSW Mikes creative peak?

there is no way that TNATSW is his creative peak. Its a great song, but this is the man who wrote fucking Still Life and Blackwater Park!

Oh man, the July 2008 membership has begun (no offense dude), hopefully they will perform better than the June 2008 contributions.

haha hopefully we wont let you down man
dont worry i wont douche it up like that Nathan guy

I agree to an extent but the abbreviation TNATSW has become legend.

Other worthy abbreviations:
TTIMR
TBYF
DotF
SPD

hmm what else rhymes with Corey

I think out of all the songs I've written "Isolation years" is probably the one I'm most happy about. I was nervous about recording the song as I was so pleased with the demo, but when I heard the final mix I was just like "Wow!"

Yet, nobody seem to share my opinion about it, but there you go, that's probably my fave so far at least.

"Silent waters" is a pretty good call from the early stuff, I was very pleased about the song when it was written, I just never cared for the recorded version.

Cheers
Mike

Well I hope you don't feel insulted when I say that I sometimes use "Isolation years" as a song to relax to before I go to bed, personally I think it's a good thing. Isolation years is a perfect song to listen to when you are stressed and need some quietness!

That being said, The Night and the Silent Water, well, I couldnt listen to it on the album verision simply because of bad recording but then again, Mike blessed us all when they recorded the roundhouse tapes, it was like a new song for me then! (together withh Under a Weeping Moon) those two songs are one of the reasons I bought the the tapes in the first place. I really like TNATSW but is it their peak? I can't agree here but it's all personal I suppose, for me it would be Deliverance.

I don't think Mike has a peak when it comes to creativity. Every time I start thinking that Opeth can't possibly get anymore awesome than they already are, they always prove me wrong. Mike is a genius, that's all it is to it.

Actually I agree with this, watershed is my top 3 favorite opeth album together with deliverance and MAYH.

Saying that a band has reached its "peak" sounds so negative. I guess opeth might have reach their peak but if they did, I think they decided to camp there for a while because I havent seen any signs of them going downhill, period.

I know everyone else has said it, but still, you definitely deserve the props on this.

As someone who started listening to Opeth a little late, I found that my first impression was just a "good". Then the more I listened (even older songs), and the more albums I owned, they went to "great" to "God-like". They just keep on raising their game another step as time progresses.

And although some people will complain of an album being a "dud", that's more so to their preference where as someone in the band or a roadie or whatever loves the album. What I'm trying to get at with that is that to all of us, Mike's creative peak will be different.

But to me, the whole BWP album showed the biggest step. I think that BWP to Opeth was what In Absentia was to Porcupine Tree and possibly even IV to Led Zeppelin in a sense that it showed progression.
