Congrats on achieving what is, in my opinion, easily the best mix Six Feet Under ever had:

It's a given that such überchunky guitars will cloud up a mix, but it fits they're style/vibe very good IMHO.

Good job!

Edit: Keep in mind how youtube rapes audio. I listened to the original CD and it's quite a difference.

I too want to make an entire career out of sounding like someone just ran my testicles over with a lawnmower.

yes, latest black dahlia murder rocks hard.
beneath the massacre - dystopia is also great!
loving those 2 records...

I love his vocals on Tomb of the Mutilated. Not a fan of the newer stuff, though. Production-wise the OP's song sounds excellent!

Yeah, same here. Every other release he sounds like crap though, with the bleeding being pretty decent. New CC is awesome though, Gallery Of Suicide and onward = :kickass: (In other words, ever since they got Pat:headbang:)

I'd say Corpsegrinder has one of the top 3 death growls ever.

Dudes! Thanks so much! I had such a fucking blast mixing this album. It took me about a week or so (very quick) and i just had so much fun with these old tunes.

I do wish the drums were tracked in a better room and that the snare used was better, but hey cant win em all. Thanks to chaz at DOI studio who did the vox, bass and guitars. He gave me good stuff to work with.

I reamped the guitars with an evh 5150III and rectifier mesa cab, 57 and 201 etc... I used some extra distortion pedals, and i think i even used the massey distortion plug on some of the DI's to get it extra nasty. I knew that the guitarist likes using metal zones in front of his amps, like the cannibal guys, and i wanted to make sure i was getting a good saturation for em.

My favorite track is by far at dawn they sleep, with frayed ends of sanity right behind it. At dawn they sleep is one of my all time favorite slayer tunes and just one of my fave tunes of all time. Frayed ends was also a huge track for me growing up. Always loved that teched out bridge riff. Also the prong cover for some reason its probably one of my fave mixes on the album. Turned out pretty cool.

As always, its just a blast to listen to SFU do old tunes. And barnes was a real pleasure to work with throughout the mix.

Oh and guys, got some really cool records comin up through the summer that i'll be producing and or mixing. Stay tuned.

I don't listen that much to CC but he's definately a great vocalist and a cool guy on the stage.

Great info here, thanks for sharing:headbang:

Mark, thanks for coming out straight with the goods!

Guitars sound insanely huge. Is there some delay or reverb going on too? Would you say that the 57/201 combo has somewhat become your go-to approach (like Andy's mostly known for the single 57)?

Any "special" treatment to get those kind of vocals to properly sit in the mix (not to drown)?

Congrats again! Looking forward to your upcoming projects.
