HEAVY HAPPENINGS
21 years ago (June 4th/5th, 2004). The BW&BK Six-Pack weekend reconvened in Cleveland, Ohio at The Odeon. After the show, BraveWords photo/scribe Mark Gromen wrote:
A great time was had by all, and things went as flawlessly as last year’s legendary set, save for Dreams Of Damnation beating each other up at the hotel (cops came and everything), skipping their set and promptly flying home.
Sounds like the winners of the evening were Metal Church, Dismember, Grave Digger, Flotsam And Jetsam and Brainstorm. Metal Church saw the biggest crowd, and even though they had three new guys in the band, including a new front man, this lineup is positively lethal. Won the crowd over, no question, with a set heavy on the first two records and their forthcoming. Yes, that means one track in total from Blessing In Disguise and Human Factor, which had many, including myself, crying the blues to raging new guitarist and all around cool guy Jay Reynolds, ex-of-Malice (welcome back, friend!).
Dismember slayed, Eric A.K. and Flotsam moshed, and Brainstorm provided fine, professional power metal, resulting in a surprisingly long and snaky line-up for their autograph session. Doro was also beloved, the blond vixen surprised to receive a gorgeous birthday cake delivered to her on stage. Ms. Pesch reciprocated by performing a surprise impromptu acoustic set at Cooperstown restaurant on the Saturday, an event which also included two Crimson Glory alumni in impressive form.
BraveWords faithful were in huge supply, and the vendors came away more than pleased with their take. There were some very loaded band members as well, with Chicago’s Ion Vein taking the empty bottle award this time ’round.
