Looking to spend under a grand for something that is good.... but obviously not going to be top of the range...

What to look for?

you aren't going to get much for under a grand. Thats about all I know. Id love to get one myself but Im lucky at the moment because I don't have any neighbours so I don't have to worry about being too loud. I played a few electronic kits at Billy Hydes when I was in Brisbane and they are awesome!! handy for recording too.

Hmm... Haupassia is right, for a grand you'll get ok gear not brilliant. You live in the western 'burbs don't ya? Go up to Drummania in Penrith and talk to Paul.... he'll be able to do you a good deal.

They've got a $1000 electronic kit in there at the moment that I was belting away on last weekend. Would do the job if I was just after something to muck around with

Yeah, I only want it for recording really... Cause the drum machine that I use is a bitch to program so I figured it'd be easier just doing my own.....

I've seen ads in Billy Hyde catalogues and such for LEGEND kits at about $800ish..... Probably not much chop but for what I want... any good?

What brand is this one you're talking about Todd? Whereabouts in Penrith is this shop?

Not totally sure of the brand... the store is in a mall off High St. Right next to the St George bank (there's a carpark around the back, best to go in there as opposed to trying to find a street park)
