Looks like they need to use variable speed servos for the control motor. That's awful jerky. If you had that mic positioned any higher it would fall over when you tried to move it.

Sam Pura has mentioned how much further back he tends to be micing these days now that he has the robot he built. I wouldn't trust that tank for anything really serious, though - it looks incredibly unstable and wobbly, and the movement is hardly smooth.

The idea is superb, it's just the implementation that's wonky.

A good, solid base you plunk down in the approx place you want, with sturdy arms/pistons/whatever that make the mic move up and down in (almost) 360° and not keel over.. Yeah, that'd be actually useful.

But you gotta love the ability to shoot from the cannon!
