surely not. There is no place where Tornados are as common as in US. They hardly happen here.

Btw, Brasil also doesnt has earthquakes, nor vulcanos. The worst natural disaster we have is floods.

i wonder if Tornados spin in different directions depending of the hemisphere!! Hehehehe. But i read in some scientific place somewhere that this stuff of water spinning in different directions is myth.

Hmmm, I have to admit Im very fascinated with tornados (well nature disasters as a whole in fact), I think I read and watched all documentaries there is about them... but the destruction it leaves behind is sure a tragedy.. Im sorry for you guys...

Imagine also that since tornados are so unlikely to occur there, that their buildings and things are not made to hold up quite as well, perhaps. As commonplace as tornados are around here (we've had a few in this area this year) they dont get less frightening. Nobody wants to lose their home, much less their life all because of some...random change in pressure and wind.

Yeah, my uncle lives in Oklahoma and they have a storm-celler. (I live on the extreme tip of tornado-ally, so they are rather rare here, though I can remember afew in my few years. In fact a small one took out a tree in my yard, but we weren't home to see...)

I hope that everyone's o.k.
I lived in Arkansas and Texas when I was younger and had a few up close and personal times with tornados. no fun. We have them in South Carolina a lot also.
Hurricanes are worse. I rode out Hugo in 89' at my in-laws and it took me 3 days, 2 tires, and a lot of tanks of chainsaw fuel to go the 20 miles back to my house. After the evacuation fiasco for Floyd I decided I'll ride out whatever comes next. If Floyd had stayed a 4 and hit with all those people stuck in traffic the death toll would have been in the 1000's.

When the hurricanes look like they'll hit we get quite a few tourists that stay or come into town to experience one o_O We're also on a big fault line. The 1816(7.3) quake was felt as far away as Boston, Milwaukee, Chicago, and Cuba. They say we're overdue for another big one. We get tremors all the time. Most of them are pretty small.
I hope this helps your vacation plans :D I wouldn't want to scare away the tourists :loco:

Floods are also the only big natural disaster in this state. As a matter of fact, a flood two weeks ago ruined my god damn carpet since my room is in the basement. I think there has been some small tornados here and there in the northern parts of the state, but nothing to wipe out whole towns.

Dragon, I'd be one of the people driving down to "experience" it. :) I guess it makes me feel more alive when I'm faced with a life threatening situation and survive it. The only problem with that is so many people living in the area of the disaster lose what they've worked their entire life to aquire.

i want to know why the americans living in the tornado zones build their house out of wood and usually with those hollow walls, instead of solid brick, cement and concrete??? I bet those houses in California would hold out against a tornado much better...
