and in other totally gay news (Wonkette.com makes me laugh out loud):

New Food Pyramid is Totally Gay
gayfood.jpg

Sure, the new USDA food pyramid may look harmless, or maybe even "healthy." But it doesn't take a professional sin-sniffer quivering with Christ-love to see what's going on here. Once again, homosexual activists have hijacked a trusted icon of sensible nutrition to brainwash schoolkids into thinking sodomy is a perfectly wholesome alternative to lunch at McDonald's. The old food pyramid was simple and straightforward, with a traditional emphasis on loaves and fishes. The new one is actually twelve different food charts, all the better to promote "diversity." And while it never explicitly mentions "homosexuality," it's gayer than a pair of chintz ass chaps, and riddled with homosexual code-words like "meat" (homosexual for cock), "nuts" (homosexual for big, heavy balls) and "milk" (homosexual for man syrup). Nice try, fruit-lovers! The boycott starts now. — GREG BEATO

If I have a choice between a fast UM with no search function, and a UM with a search with a timeout after every post, I choose the former.

It's 2005, if you can't have a board with a search engine what is the world coming to. I'm on hip hop boards with just as many people on at any given time, and their signatures, etc are just as out of control as here....

I don't get it.

And thanks for those Icons Erik, I didn't have some of those yet.

I guess I just didn't use the search engine all that much, so I don't miss it.

Besides, spaffe showed up how to find UM threads by using google.

Just want to add something here in a complete threadjack but this UM search banter got me on a roll....some early news leaking here (sorry Erik but I'm excited).....the new RC site is going to have search functionality by the following search keys:

- Band
- Album Title
- Song Title
- Label
- Body Text (yes that's right)

Plus you can sort ALL the reviews by:

- Release Date
- Site Publish Date
- Rating
- Reviewer

I've tested it and it works great. It's unbelievable.

I also just uploaded my Amorphis review via our upload template as a test -- the whole process took approx. 5.1328 minutes (and the upload formatted the review accordingly, listed it in the front page under as a latest update, and last but not least, threw it into the A-Z index).

Just smokin'....

I think UM absolutely needs a search function in the webzine part (reviews, interviews, etc.). I'd like to have it all the time, but I mostly miss it when I feel like perusing older reviews. Or, albums I'm not sure whether we've reviewed or not.

Search will return. I am trying to pry out of the VB staff the next projected update (which is introducing search crap especially for large forums). If I can't get an answer I am going to try out a hack. I don't want to do that though just to have the official solution come out a week later or something.

As far as other boards... sure it can be done. Others may be running several servers to accomplish this. I can't recall if it was this board or not that pointed to the Home Theater forum. I contacted those dudes and they had 2 or 3 dual Xeon servers powering their forums, one just for the database itself. If I had the cashola I would gladly add in another server to solve the issue but I don't.

You're not hosting the servers yourself are you? What would be the cost to add more server power to your current landscape? I'm sure some of the 10,000 UM members can donate $.

Also, do you think adding servers will help? From what I can gather, the issue is with the scripts, not the CPU. Am I right?

I sent you to them ... with all the traffic you get on this site ... I think you can land some good advertisers to raise some money. This is how the Home Theater Forum does it ...

All I see it the same old banners here for the last 2 years ...
