So I was wondering, we're most likekly goign to hit the road this summer...from early-mid july through August and I just realized, I have no idea how to go about getting a proper ride and trailer for our gear and all that shit. I was hoping the ND guys could give a few pointers? I was hoping to be able to get an RV or something, so we wouldnt' have to pay for hotel rooms, but...if they're going to be incredibly expensive...(the RV) then probably just borrow or rent a Van + trailer.

what is the best bang for the buck?

Let me say from experience, stay away from the RV. It was a nightmare. It was great while parked outside each venue, having a place to hang out, and sleep, but while moving, it was not only a nausea factory, but it broke down twice in a week, and we had to have it replaced the second time due to brakes. Go with a van and trailer. At least you'll get a shower every night. Plus, you'll pay for the mileage on the RV, and you're responsible for emptying the waste tank... Just not worth it. haha

Yeah the RV was kind of a messy experience for us. That also had to do with the fact that we took it out in February which is not the best time to be traveling in an RV. You've never seen a more nervous, white-knuckled driver than Vito was when we were driving into Canada over the Falls, and it was so ridiculously windy and dark, we thought we were going to fucking die, lol. We were also going like 80 m.p.h too, so that didn't help.

Financially your best bet is to just get a van and trailer, and get the occasional cheap motel room for a shower and a comfortable shit, haha. RVs, Mini-busses, etc., are all very expensive.

Alright, seems like a Van is the way 2 go. Did you guys just buy one? or are their decent places to rent them from? Actually I"m hoping we can find a family-friend or somethign that has one they could loan us.

Sorry for being so terribly off topic but I've got the Martriden EP in my car right now and have been playing it at inhuman volumes a good number of times. Goddammit, what a great release! The vocals on "The Art of Death Infernal" simply shred. And I'm just saying that as a specific highlight, because there's really nothing bad I can find in your work. :kickass:

To this day I am still shocked we actually made it to that gig in Canada, not only on time, but with our lives intact. An RV is not the right choice to go with. A nice van and trailer like these guys said is the best way to go.

We don't travel frequently enough to constitute paying for a van to own, unfortunately. We've either borrowed or more often than not, we rent. Best bet is to just look in the phone book and call around to local places. Make sure you ask about unlimited mileage and trailer-towing restrictions, if any. That's how you can get fucked on the price in the end if you don't make sure you have that stuff straight.

Well, you guys need to haze the new guy anyhow, right?

We're working with someone new, but he's not playing with us in Europe. Before we started working with him, our studio engineer and sound man, Chris Djuricic (who also played bass on The Novella Reservoir) offered to help us out, so we've been rehearsing with Chris for it.

Also, if you're not carrying a lot of gear, you might want to consider renting a big-ass passenger van like the Chevrolet Express. A trailer can be a major pain in the ass in bad traffic or in small parking spaces plus you'll end up with better gas mileage.

You'll have to admit... it was cool to sit in that heated RV while people froze their butts off outside the club in Cambridge!

Yeah except for when that douchebag hit our RV with his U-haul truck. I don't know how he backed up into us, I mean the RV is pretty hard not to see.

Aside from the mechanical problems, the RV was a nice thing to have. It just wasn't well suited for such cold and windy weather conditions. But it was nice to have beds and a bathroom and all that easily at our disposal.
