Trivium fired their drummer.. Again!

Watched a video of him a few months ago, it sucked so bad I couldn't believe they fired Travis Smith over this guy. Keeping time is essential as a drummer, something he didn't care about, or just couldn't.

Yeah, i watched a video from Wacken with them and he struggled really hard with some of the fast songs, especially with the double kick.

Yeah, maybe it's the dry drum sounds that make it sound worse than it is.

The technical bass drum parts don't go perfectly and there's a little fluctuation in the beginning, but other than that I really don't see what the problem is supposed to be there.

He's kinda speeding up and slowing down. That naturally happens when you don't play to a click.
A few parts here and there where kinda eh. Shit happens. That tom thing starting at 2:50 was pretty cringe though.
The guitar solo section to Like Light To The Flies at 2011 Wacken was pretty bad.
You know you're fucked when the guitar player and the bass player are both right in front of you looking at you trying to give you cues when the down beat starts.
Been in that position before. Feels good.

To be fair the guitar playing in Trivium is pretty sloppy live as well, watching the recent Wacken one theres a lot of parts where they come in late or speed up and slow down dramatically and he's having to adjust to it. To be expected though - thats just part of a live gig when you play technical music for the most part.

Regardless of whether or not he sucked in those videos, or live, he was still leaps and bounds better than Travis Smith, so this is too bad. In my opinion he was a solid drummer that brought a whole new flavor to the band, one that they needed. But maybe a new flavor would suit them best. Who knows.

And not that there has been any mumblings about it, but I really hope they dont go back to Travis. I wonder if they'll do another drum tech swap since they have their current tech filling in right now.

Really? The speeding up and slowing down were just to much if you ask me.
Offcourse there's a natural flow in general and speeding up and slowing down is supposed to happen, but this feels very unnatural and a bit excessive.

Anyway, I'm not in his position, and it's always easier to judge than to do it better.

^^ that was my first thought too. i was very surprised to see them mentioned in the "tightest bands" thread.

He's no Mario Duplantier but still I don't see anything wrong with that drum cam footage. Also, from reading the statement they made, I don't think his drumming was the main reason they fired him. Seems like maybe he wasn't getting along with them so well off the stage.

Exactly what I was going to say. Aside from Mario, Shannon Lucas and a few other dudes, THIS IS WHAT EVERY GOOD METAL DRUMER SOUNDS LIKE WITHOUT SAMPLES AND EDITING. He's fine.

I don't like Trivium anyhow. But apparently if you get a gig as their drum tech, it's assured you'll be their drummer within a few years.
