From Jeff Scott Soto:
"First of all, I want to announce and finally answer the burning question I've been bombarded with the past weeks: Yes, I will be returning for the Trans-Siberian Orchestra Winter Tour this year! It is exciting to be a part of the next chapter of this monster machine as we embark on a new show based on the story and music behind The Lost Christmas Eve album. The US tour begins Nov 15th and goes through Dec 30th so see you all out there for that! "

No ATL Date?? Please let JSS be at the Raleigh, NC date since I think I will be there then....

After the crappy turn out for BLN at the beginning of this year....they obviously have no interest in coming anywhere near Albuquerque. Can't say that I blame them, but still makes me sad. It was a family tradition to go see the winter show the first three years they did it. Then no more dates here.

I really have no idea what they've been trying to accomplish with the BLN tours. I suppose O'Neill wants to present the band as being more than a seasonal act, but if that's the case, why is it touring a mediocre 12-year-old album instead of the somewhat less-mediocre three-year-old album that's its most recent release? It seems to me that O'Neill really needs to come to terms with the fact that TSO's niche is holiday music (and since it's releasing a new Christmas EP this year, perhaps the message is beginning to get through), but he still seems bound and determined to waste the millions of dollars he makes annually on the winter tours trying to make the band a year-round success (and, one suspects, reclaim a part of his musical legacy from Savatage).

1000 Faces, I think you're the only person who likes Night Castle better than Beethoven's Last Night. I enjoy both, but Night Castle has considerably more filler. If anything, I think Paul O'Neil should try writing stand-alone songs as opposed to concept albums. He tried too hard to tie a bunch of songs together on the last two full-length albums. Perhaps this new EP will be an attempt at what I'm suggesting.

Stay metal. Never rust.

I think my dislike for BLN is based on the fact that it was the first real indication that O'Neill was headed on a one-way journey up his own ass. It took years to record that album, and the overproduction served only to wring every ounce of emotion out of the music. Night Castle isn't great, but it doesn't try to cram classical music where it doesn't belong in every song, and it's got a more Savatage-y vibe to it (which is owed, I'm sure, to the fact that there are several actual Savatage numbers on it).

And the best songs on there were re-worked SAVA tunes.

Still, looking forward to seeing the new Winter Tour...planning to hit the Vegas show!
