Most people on twitter are pretentious imbeciles that think they are interesting enough and that everyone wants to know what they are up to all the time...

I am not in denial about my boring-ish life, whereas most people on twitter are.

I'm boycotting twitter...

I was beginning to think I was the only one that felt this way.

I've always seen Twitter as just the next level of superfluous vanity. I have no desire to tell people what I'm doing all the time, apart from the fact that I find it a tad vain, I've always seen it as a bit boring. It removes any mystery left in our lives of already excessive instant gratification.

An awesome cartoon about the ridiculousness of Twitter - try searching for "Twouble with Twitters", well worth it!

The people that don't get it likely never will.
The people that bitch about Twitter also seem to have Myspace pages promoted in their profile or sig too. :p

I follow 25 interesting people (many more than that is unmanageable IMO), and 459 follow me. Why they follow me I have no idea. Either they find me interesting or they think I'll follow them back. I get so many follow notifications I filter them to a HAM folder and don't even look at them.

If you want me to follow you back, you've got to participate in the conversations I want to have. If I post a link that you find useful, either say thanks or Retweet it to your followers.

For those with something to sell/promote, you can see what people are tweeting in realtime with http://twitterfall.com (try searching Pro Tools and see how many people tweet about PT each hour.) Find people that are interested and talk to them, you don't even have to follow them. Twitter can be a great marketing tool.

My myspace is so people who are curious about who I am can read a profile/overview and look at pics of my sexy self (and gear), it's a lot different than feeling like everyone is interested in a constant barrage of updates on my life ("Shouting into the darkness and hoping someone is listening" ). Your description of conversations, Jon, makes me think that maybe with some people there can be more to it than just what the above video makes it out to be, but that's all I've seen from "acquaintences" who have it, and I think the video sums it up perfectly :D

No, because at least when they call, they show they're interested enough to make the effort to see how your doing, rather than you just counting on them reading your random posts into the ether. FTR, Twitter really doesn't bother me that much, I'm just trying to clarify my meaning :) (and just watch the video, as I said I think it sums it up perfectly)

No it doesn't :) Did you notice how the Devin Townsend Ki bonus tracks were first told us about in Devin's Twitter profile? And I learned about FNM's gig in Finland from Twitter long before it was announced officially. So, besides being a social gadget, it's actually a nifty tool for getting information about your interests.

Oh wait?? Sarcasm, right??? :p

All in good spirit, though ;)

Yeah, social interaction is highly overrated. In fact, when people make the mistake of calling me and asking how I'm doing, I instantly proceed to hunt down their families and STAB THE NOSY FUCKERS IN THE FACE.

I'm kinda the opposite.
My life is pretty public, I post on my site, I do the home recording show each week, I'm on Facebook (which automatically updates my notes as my site is updated), and I post on twitter fairly often. I make myself accessible, I try to be sociable.
And I get really annoyed when someone asks me what I've been up to. I've already told the whole fucking world! I shouldn't have to say it again!
