TWISTED SISTER bassist Mark Mendoza, along with Rob Rush from 94.3 The Shark and comedian Billy Mira have launched "Radioactive", a new podcast which features local and national talent on Connoisseur Media. Based in Suffolk County, Long Island, The Shark has filled an empty void for listeners in a market where classic rock and top 40 CHR has dominated for years. There hasn't been an outlet for select hard rock artists outside of specialty shows. Nassau and Suffolk counties have been known for their vibrant music scene dating back to the 1970s all through the '80s. With legendary venues like OBI, Speaks, Rum Runners and Sundance, it was a hotbed for new and up-coming talent such as TWISTED SISTER. Predating TWISTED SISTER, Long Island has seen many well-known artists lift from the scene — Pat Benatar, FOGHAT and Billy Joel, to name a few. All have all left their hallmark as beginning their careers on the Island. The "Radioactive" podcast is an additional outlet to expose new artists and talent that otherwise fans would never have access to. Social media dominates the new music scene but without any direction it falls on blind eyes and deaf ears to a loyal fanbase that otherwise would have never discovered the band. The hang scene which dominated in the past has been replaced by disposable amusement in which fans can sit at home and self-entertain. "Radioactive" gives the fans a chance to download episodes of the podcast and get turned on to new developing talent. "It's an outlet that fans will discover something they would have never heard," says Mendoza. Rob Rush has been air-staff in New York and neighboring Long Island since 1998. He started his career as the late-night DJ for 92.7 WLIR FM, which was a legendary station credited as the first modern rock/alternative station in the United States. When WLIR was sold in 2003, Rush joined 94.3 FM and has been its staple on-air voice since. In addition to being the night jock for The Shark, Rob is the production director and does voiceover work for the News 12 networks on Cablevision. He's also the backup public address announcer for the New York Mets. Mendoza, who began his career as the bass player for THE DICTATORS, has left an everlasting mark on fans as well as listeners. In 1978, Mark was asked to join TWISTED SISTER, replacing bass player Kenny Neill. He moved into broadcasting with "Animal Tactics" radio in the mid-2000s.
