I tried playing around using the good ole Fredman technique and just figured how hard it is to get it right (not that I have succeeded at all!).

A bit sloppy played but it served the purpose:

Testriffs from one of our songs, bass is ghetto pitch-shifted guitar into Ampeg SVX.

These are my first takes ever recording anything with a proper setup that is beyond software amplification and I'm still an absolut noob

any feedback welcome :)

Less gain, more mids. You could also try recording two very AC/DC-esque tone crunch guitar tracks (compress them a bit) and bring them up just a little bit along with the "real" guitars. They'll give more clarity in terms of attack.

That's some good advice, will try that out next time.

Here's another mix with those tracks:

One with no bass, just guitars:

And one with diff. bass distortion, put more into the background and with some more compression/attack on the guitars and drums:

I think it sounds better now, but however the guitars are a bit thin.
Any ideas how I can make them more wide?
