....really were quite good, actually, ne? Got my first songs of theirs yesterday - Hellbound 7" along with The Audition Tapes. Really cool stuff, I was suprised at how heavy those four songs actually were. A band I would love to have been 15 years younger in order to have seen ;)

Anyone know what the deal behind that Audition Tapes 7" was?

Sure. The Tygers recorded their first album with the following linup:

Jess Cox V
Robb Weir G
Rocky B
Brian Dick D

Wild Cat was released in 1980 and got good reviews. But it became clear very soon that vocalist Jess Cox was not good enough to carry the band further.

So the band started looking around for an other vocalist..
After hiring a better lead guitarist John Sykes they held an audition for the new singer. They liked schoolteacher
Jon Deverill the best. And they recorded "The audition tapes" with him.

Later when they released the "Hellbound" single they decided to give their fans a bonus with the "Audition tapes". If I remember correctly The bonus single was anly available with the first [enter number here] singles issued.

If you have the original package keep it because it is an collectors item.

I actually have 5 copies of their Mystical album coming in at the end of this week if you're interested. I myslf am a late comer to this band, but they kick some butt!

If you're giving them away free then I am most definately interested!

Cheers for the info, Hawk. Looks like I struck lucky then :D only cost me a quid second hand, but it shows - the dick who was the previous owner must've liked it so much he stuck it on his wall, as there are four great pin-holes in each corner :( and the sleeve has not aged well at all  but I am proud to know I own a valuable bit of history! :D

Hey Modden I only like their first two albums and the several EP's and singles from those day's. I have seen them live 4 times. 3 times in the Netherlands and one time at Wacken '99 in Germany. That gig SUCKED big time btw.

Tygers of Pan Tang were one of my favorite bands and especially kicked ass with John Sykes! That first album is an NWOBHM classic, but Spellbound is a masterpiece. Crazy Nights was OK and then it was down hill from that point.

Dude you said it!! I could not agree more. Rock on! :headbang:

I've met Jess Cox 2 months ago, he gave me free NEAT record compilation as well as photo and autographs. Now he runs Edgy Record with his wife.

Of course John Sykes is killer. He is very much of Gary Moore graduate though.

All I got is Live at Nottingham Rock City with Devril and Sykes era.
