Have they still got it?

I have to admit that I probably became a bigger fan in there latter half of their career.

My bro-in-law is a massive die-hard fan and he lent me their Vertigo Concert DVD. They sure now how to put on a spectacle live and they still sound damn good too.

I still admit that their Zooropa Tour back in the early 90s was one of the most amazing concerts I have ever been too.

There last 2 albums have been a good return to form - sounding more like their older material. Still the Joshua Tree is their best work to date.

I only own Joshua Tree and War. I did see Bono at the White House for the presidents prayer breakfast on C-SPAN. I thought that was very strange.

Alot of people slam Bono for his `meetings' with these world leaders saying its ego this and that, or hidden agendas or nothing more than a publicity stunt.

I believe rather not.

After reading his autobiography recently I found him to be quite a humble, honest, man, husband and father who is using his profile from being frontman of one of the world's most famousrock bands to good use.

Good on him I say. Why not try to make a difference.

Interesting note in the Alive 2 extras when one of the band members (I can't remember who) states how the Edge is a fan and has all the Anthrax collection.

one of those bands who i would never purposly listen too at home....couldnt believe how great they are on concert,i am seeing again.

You got tickets huh? I missed out on both Melb shows and Adelaide one as well.

SPEWING!

Have fun man. They are awesome live.

u2 - Did they ever have it?

Vastly over-rated, boring, IRA supporting dad-rock wankers.

If I voluntarily listened to them, I'd know it was time to end it all.

vertigo is a killer song!! I don't know about the rest of their latest album. alot of filler it seems but whatever. vertigo is a killer song
U2 still has it. not as much as they used to. But their live show seems overproduced..? umm...hold on, just kind of $$

bono still has a voice but the edge hasn't really grown as a guitarist over the years.

not to seem like a kiss ass but scott ian has really grown as a guitarist over the years. edge has sat in idle for the past 15 years. U2 still has good songs though and they rock. too bad spitz didn't stick around for the bush years of anthrax. The revolving door of lead guitarists in anthrax (not to take aways from dimebag's contributions) kind of sucked. as much as I liked paul crook and caggiano.

wait a minute..this is a thread about U2. And they rock. ... In an arena atmosphere. I'm sure they'd suck balls playing in front of three hundred people in a sweaty packed bar/club. Their live show seems to lean on massive over production. btw, John Bush's voice really shines on their cover of exit. I listen to that track all the time. He's better than bono on it.

Me too with the Adelaide show. I know I'm going to regret it.

Yer my sister and brother in law had to wait 3 hours in line at Elizabeth Shopping Centre to get a ticket. Lucky buggers. :zombie:

I saw them in 83 in Philly in a 3000 seat theater and it was amazing.
The band has changed considerably over time (which is partly responsible for their longevity).

Think of this 1987 - The Joshua Tree and Among the Living were released. U2 is cool - they exposed the Alarm to the states too.

Anyone remember in 1987 on MTV on the first leg of the Joshua Tree tour in the states they followed U2 in some bar in Arizona and the band was all smashed drinking Bud Longnecks. I want this show on DVD

Hahaha! Great year. I can still vividly remember seeing their first ever video (well for me) - was Gloria - and that swooping camera shot of them on that barge.

Interesting what Alex said about the Edge as a guitarist. Reading an interview with the man in question and he states he doesn't pick up his guitar and play it a lot - he just plays guitar for U2.

What about live at the Red Rocks - they kicked ass on Sunday Bloody Sunday. I need to see the whole thing.

Yes. I wish that would get the 5.1 DVD treatment.

U2 have postponed the remaining March and April dates of their Vertigo tour --including stops in Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Hawaii -- "due to the illness of an immediate family member of one of the band," tour promoter Arthur Fogel said. Specifics were not disclosed. "Any fan of U2 will realize that this decision has not been taken lightly," Fogel added. Further details will be announced soon.
