Ukrainian Metal?

Anyone here from Ukraine who can comment on the state of Metal there?

Neurotica is from Ukraine and she is an expert. However if you are asking for a band recommendation then withouth hesitation I recommend the excellent Nokturnal Mortum. As far as how popular, what the scene is like I have no clue.

Nokturnal Mortum does rule, I'm not from Ukraine but I think the NSBM movement is likely going strong there.

Yes... sort of odd too considering they were fighting against the Germans... I think the Germans would have considered the Russians/Ukranians as impure also or at least less than the Germans in terms of racial purity.

Yes, also odd considering there's generally all whites living there in Ukraine, being anti-black/whatever race can be awkward when you've never or rarely seen one, I don't know, a lot of Jews live there or what? What fuels the NSBM movement there?

Actually Neurotica tells me there are quite a few black people in Ukraine.

Kharkiv produces some good shit.
True.
Kharkiv has much more good musicians than the capital.

So, some good ukrainian bands:

Nocturnal Mortum (NSBM)
Drudkh (black/heathen metal)
Kroda (Pagan Folk Black Metal)
Knell (Black Metal [clean vocals])
Raventale (depressive black/doom metal)
Selvmord (Black metal)
Kladovest (depressive black metal)
Azuth (black/ambient)
Vetche (dark ambient/funeral music)
Dub Buk (Melodic Black Metal)
Hate Forest (NSBM [the first band of Drudkh's former])
Inferno (gothic metal)
Kolo (Black/Folk Metal/Dark Ambient)
Lucifugum (Black Metal)
Semargl (black metal)

No, not in Ukraine, but in Poland. And believe it or not, in the US as well.

Still haven't heard Hate Forest, what are they like?

Brilliant, but not for the faint of heart.

Do not expect sweeping passages of beauty, for the beauty in Hate Forest is that of pure aggression and unparalleled aural hatred. It is devoid of the melody many in music seek, devoid of tonal colour and life, and filled with caustic texture and aridity.
