Always Somewhere!
Don Dokken and NEVERMORE/ex-TESTAMENT guitarist Steve Smyth have been confirmed as guests at this year's Uli Jon Roth Sky Academy seminar and concerts.

Set to take place August 22-26 at Musician's Institute in Los Angeles, the concept of Sky Academy was conceived by Uli. He wanted a medium to teach his own unique approach to musicians wanting to take their playing to that next level.

Uli will perform two concerts, titled "Uli Jon Roth and Friends", in conjunction with his Sky Academy Seminar (note: tickets can be purchased separately for the concerts). Uli will play lots of SCORPIONS and playing tribute to many classic bands, such as CREAM, JIMI HENDRIX, THE DOORS, and others.

Guests confirmed to jam with Uli this year are as follows:

Don Dokken
Steve Smyth (NEVERMORE, ex-TESTAMENT)
Joe Stump
Michael Angelo Batio
Chris Poland (ex-MEGADETH)
Tony Franklin (bass; BLUE MURDER, THE FIRM, WHITESNAKE)
Rob Pagliari (bass)
Michael Ehre (drums; METALIUM)
Roy Z (Bruce Dickinson, HALFORD)
Adrian Galysh
Andrew Shulman (cello)

Last year the seminars and concerts were held at UCLA. Uli played about four hours a night, paaying tribute to THE DOORS with Robbie Krieger, CREAM, HENDRIX, GEORGE GERSHWIN, VIVALDI as well as playing many SCORPIONS and ULI JON ROTH classics.

Last years so was totally amazing, now I get to see Smyth Jammin' so awesome!! Can't wait to see you Steve! If I remember I called you about last years show maybe something stuck with you:p

Hey thanks KB and RM!

Yes, it's true! I've been invited to perform at Uli Jon Roth's Sky Academy this weekend, August 24th, and 25th, as a special guest.

I'm excited about this! This is the man who's licks have inspired many legendary guitarists! One can't cite Marty Friedman, or even Yngwie Malmsteen, as an influence, without acknowleding the lasting impression Uli's playing had on them, and for that alone, I am honored to be performing onstage, as part of this weekend's event!

Those that live in LA, hope to see you there! For more information about Sky Academy, and the performances, please visit: http://www.sky-academy.com/:rock: :headbang: :headbang:

Dude what songs are you going to be jamming with Uli? Just been blasting Tokyo Tapes, top notch playing from Schenker and Roth.

Awesome! To be honest, I have no idea. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Roth recently, and he said they usually keep things pretty open, so....dunno! And, apparently, they don't just do the old Scorps and his solo stuff either, it's pretty varied. I'm up for anything; seeing as how it's been a while since I've been on a stage (with exception to my recent Sweet Leaf farewell gig, it has been almost a year and a half really), I'm really looking forward to this in a big way!:headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

Two nights of Uli Jon Roth and Friends, WOW who could ask for more! To hear Piero, Mark and Jeff sing classic Scorpions songs and so damn very well was jaw dropping! Mark on Sails of Charon was hitting those high notes so clean and powerful, I sure hope Jeff or Bobby will post on you tube! Jeff Scott Soto, damn that guy can sing! Such power, emotion and stage presence anytime he'd like to cover the Scorps is fine by me! Here is his website http://jeffscottsoto.com/home/ br

I was happy to see my long time friend and newlywed Steve Smyth and his lovely and sweet wife Nikki, it had been over a year since we had seen each other and such a pleasure to catch up on things. Steve, you damn near made me faint when you gave me the copy of the Esseness Project!! Congratulations to you both, I wish you a lifetime of love, happiness and joy! You were made for eachother!!! http://www.stevesmyth.com/

I printed out the pictures that I had taken on Friday night and was able to get them all signed on Saturday night. All the guys were very kind and accomodating, especially Jeff Scott Soto and his wife. Throughout the night we had tried to get a decent picture together and it just wasn't happening. The fourth time it came out...but LOL the look on our faces is like "eeerrrr is this gonna work."

Michael Ehre was back again this year and what a hell of a time keeper and mad man on a kit that guy is...and sooooo easy on the eyes ladies * wink * wink. If you want some kick ass metal check him and the band out at http://www.metalium.de/news.html I shot many pictures of him just trying to get a shot where a mic or symbal wasn't in the way. I did wind up with a few....yay!

After the show we got to get some pictures and autographs from Uli..and lots and lots of hugs!! Such a gentle soul he is, so kind, sweet and easy to be around. We talked a bit about new tour, last years show, and I asked if there was any chance he would be in L.A. when the Scorpions were in town and he said he is continuing the tour and it just can't happen. But that he will be back in France in 2008 and possibly as a guest of the Scorpions. What I wouldn't give to be able to sit alone with him for 15 minutes!! That was the third time I've had the pleasure of talking to him and damn it! I didn't ask if he had a guitar pick with him! Well guess that means I'll have to go back in 2008...like there is any doubt!!

I hope you all will enjoy the pictures!! Kristy
