By the way, I just started getting Woodcut promos. We're getting WAY more promos than we can review, and with all the recent people we've added, labels seem to be pretty happy with our output. Consequently, more stuff keeps coming in. 2 years ago I was getting MAYBE half what I'm getting now. We often get doubles or triples of the same promos (sent to different writers), so even if you don't review the thing, you still might end up with it for free.

I just recently bought this. It sounds pretty good on my first few listens, but there were a couple of tracks I wasn't too keen on tbh. Will give it a few more spins though for sure.

We basically set it up so that there's a list of all the promos available for review. You then get to choose what you review. For example, right now you could choose Keep of Kalessin, Enslaved, Starkweather (fuckin' KILLER band), and some black metal from Woodcut records. If you don't want power metal or metalcore, you never get it.

but when nobody picked the obvious crap it just got sneaked in

I did about 170 reviews at metalworks, in one issue I wrote about 60 odd

Can you email me a few of your previous reviews (russell@ultimatemetal.com)? It would be good to have another GB writer, and NI gets some good gigs too, so we could sort you out guest passes for live reviews as well.

Plus you can do however many you want, we don't have and lower or upper limits...

Granted, I wasn't involved in the promo/review process nearly as long as some of the folks around here were, but long enough to see it sucks ass. If I was going to do start a review web site, I'd have no relationship with the labels.

What sucks about it? Tons of free music. Lots of it sucks, a fair amount of it doesn't. Isn't that clear going in?
