Former Woods of Ypres bassist/clean vocalist Aaron Palmer (who performed on the "Against the Seasons" album) has provided me with the following update on his life:

WhitePine.JPG

After four years of studies, I will be receiving an Honours Bachelor of Science in Forestry from Lakehead University. Following this, I am relocating to Whitecourt, Alberta, which is 1.5 hours Northwest of Edmonton. Here I will be working for a Forestry Consulting firm called Woodlands Forest Management (www.woodlandsfmconsulting.com ). The type of work I will be doing focuses on Forest Operations and Engineering, which is basically taking previously allocated spatial information and applying it 'on the ground'. This involves using maps and GIS to choose which trees are appropriate to be cut, implementing a road design based on natural features, and then marking the harvest boundaries in the forest. I chose this position because I'll not only get to spend all day in the forest, but I feel it epitomizes the essence of Forestry--deciding which trees are protected, and which trees are utilized.

He also adds...

To anyone who is interested in working outdoors, protecting the environment, or have a general fascination with forests and how they function, check out Lakehead's Forestry program here: www.lakeheadforestry.ca, or contact me at atpalmer@lakeheadu.ca .

Congrats to Aaron on his success! :kickass:

From a band called Woods to the woods themselves, how fitting. It's cool to see he's gone on to do something he likes rather than flipping burgers like so many musicians who no longer perform. To be honest I thought David was doing the clean vocals for the longest time on Against The Seasons. Anyway, to future success to a damn fine bassist and one hell of a singer.

That's awesome news, glad to hear of Aaron's success with his studies, I know he's put in alot of dedicated hard work towards forestry and glad to hear it's paying off for him. Congrats Aaron! :kickass:  :kickass:

That is a job I would fucking love to have, however, I have a sweet gig lined up right now... and I would be silly to toss it away to risk a chance at being, happy. Not saying I ain't happy with my job, it just is NOT what I would like to be doing. It fell into my lap when I was in dire need of a job.

But enough of my rambling...

Good on this fella for going for it. PS... enjoy the cold up there! Hopefully the stench of Deadmonton won't travel that far north... :P

no shit....me too. As I stare at the piles of (mostly useless) paper around me I can't help but be glad that there are people who at least try and control the logging industry. I think I'll print a 500 page report about how glad I am.
