Well, Mr Toast is frankly one of the lynchpins of the Utah scene. His tireless dedication to it never ceases to amaze and impress.
In the light of the events of the Sharonfest show on the 20th in California, I was saddened and disappointed. First up, I will say that yes, Bruce Dickinson is a bit of a motormouth, and it's easy to see how his
alleged statements can be taken out of context, but even if he did say everything he
allegedly did, that does not in any way justify the unprofessional, childish and downright fucking dangerous antics that took place during Maiden's set -
especially in this post-Dimebag world (the same goes for anyone making goddamn death threats against anyone, Sharon included).
I've seen some of the other bands' responses to what happened, not least by Otep and Bury Your Dead, both of whom deny any involvement (although the similarities in their statements end there, and BYD are the only ones seemingly deserving of any kudos). It
will be revealed exactly who did what, I hope, and then this whole sorry affair can be laid to rest. At least it seems that Ozzy himself, and the other members of Black Sabbath, had nothing to do with it. Sharon and Kelly, on the other hand...
I've had Maiden blasting in my car all day, though. That should say a lot right there.
And anyone saying Maiden disrespected America (I'm looking at you, Zakk Wylde) needs to have a good long look at exactly what's been said. Maiden don't care for
corporate America, the America that gives the best seats in the house to so-called VIPs who have little to no interest in the artists while the fans get relegated too far back to see clearly.
That is the America Maiden don't care for. But everyday America, home to the fans who gave Maiden their greatest successes? Maiden have nothing but good to say about
that America. Good on them, I say.
Up the Irons!
