Does anybody of you know/appreciate Van der graaf generator c.q. Peter Hammill ? Hammill started Van der graaf end 60's, made an incredible amount of albums without ever reaching a big audiance. A prime example of a cult artist and his '75 masterpiece Godbluff, with Van der graaf generator, really deserves a try. I'm pretty sure a few of you will appreciate this one, 'cause it's dark, emotional, subtle and very classy stuf !

Highly recommended!

Godbluff consists of just four songs which all last about ten minutes and are all very impressive but the first and the last are my favorites, 'the undercoverman' and 'the sleepwalkers'. A solo album from Hammill I have to mention is 'the silent corner and the empty stage' from which, again, the first and last songs stand out imo, 'modern' and 'a louse is not a home'. May be difficult to download it though. Hope you'll have a nice music-experience.

yes, my dude! i'm but a happy admirer of VDGG and some of Hammill's early albums, and for those who want to check'em out, here are my selections:

VDGG - Still Life (the best of the whole bunch, esp. the song 'My Room' is genius)
VDGG - Pawn Hearts (has Fripp on it, and the music is very fine)
Peter Hammill - Over (Anathema fans are advised to d/l the song 'Yoga' - a very 'Anathema' song but made 20 years earlier or so)
Peter Hammill - The Silent Corner & the Empty Stage
Peter Hammill - In Camera

shit man i thought Peter Hammil was dead underground. i got an album from him after one of my mates dad gave me a listen to the guy. some songs are really powerful, my favourite is the one called "In The End", its dead good, its only voice and piano but it sounds so good and holds so much power that you have the same feeling as if a whole band was playing. you guys have to check that song its just amazing in my opinion. i burnt that album for you Mick do you remember?
