A visceral approach is taken by Venomous Concept when delivering their seemingly hatred strewn thoughts to the world. And working within their narrow realms of hardcore driven metal stylings, they carry out their tasks quite effectively. This makes them an overtly aggressive act that performs briefly harsh manners quite effectively and expediently.

The titling of the band and album is suggestive of this harsh kind of music and Venomous Concept certainly deliver the billing. However, whether they are an altogether better band because of a certain slant to their music is questionable because perhaps a more heady approach might have benefitted the band here. The hardcore flavour of Venomous Concept leaves little room for ingenuity and they come across as slightly generic. We might want to put on an album like Poisonous Apple when in a need for a slight adrenaline rush, but don’t expect a standout performance. For example, in terms of musicianship and lyrics Venomous Concept offer nothing to be highly impressed by and thus sort of just gel by at a moderate pace without leaving a substantial mark upon the listener.

What you're left with is a decidedly short, but visceral experience that will catch your attention for a short period of time through effective manners. And this style of hardcore is something that Venomous Concept performs reasonably well, although they may lack the great depth to put them on the same level as a band like Dillinger Escape Plan, for example. On the whole, Poisonous Apple is a good album for people looking for a fun experience, but nothing with a superior aspect of any type.
