Versailles will release their first full album titled "NOBLE" this month. It will come out in Japan and Europe July 16th, and hit North America on July 30th. The new CD will NOT be on iTunes as previously anticipated, it will be a physical release only. At least for now.
You can buy it here:

In the meantime, check out this teaser clip for the new video. It's pretty spooky ;)

I'll post more info as I get it :headbang:

They are the goofiest looking band of all time .. even goofier than Manowar. I couldn't stand the singer, and didn't find much appealing about the songs themselves. The video clip above is smart .. keeps you from laughing out loud by not showing the band in action. Here's the band in action .. pure comedy gold.

I am sorry I can't get past the costumes, the music is okay, but the singer ughhhhhh is he singing in Japanese?

Goofy? Then I must be goofy too because I love watching their stage show! :loco: The clip Invisible Guest posted was from a big festival, it doesn't help that they are in front of an obnoxiously bright backdrop  I guess the songs appeal to me because I like the "neo-classical" sound, and their costumes just kinda add to that whole theme/image/whatever. Plus I don't mind the vocal style typical to this variety of Japanese bands. I didn't mean to start a whole new round of discussion on this topic since the other thread is only on page 2, just wanted to give a fresh heads-up to the people who just discovered Versailles and enjoy them. :Spin:

And yes, he's singing in Japanese :headbang: :headbang:

Shok .. you should keep this clown band to one thread ... giving them two is twice as much exposure than they deserve ;)

I saw Michael the whorebot's thread over at Perpetual Motion, but missed it on this board. There were some hilarious comments from people on that board, most of which was not positive. Nick Van Dyk had some classic lines.

I wouldn't rule out a band at all because of image, or because of a gimmick (I'm a huge King Diamond fan), but this band looks ridiculous, and the singer is horrible. The music also isn't very catchy. They are purely image and gimmick, and little in the way of substance. Just my opinion though ... many seem to enjoy them, and that's cool as well.

hah goofy indeed, especially coming from someone with King Diamond on his avatar..

you are telling me a grown man with a high falsetto voice, facepaint, a pornstache, and a mullet isn't the goofiest thing in the world?

come on, lets be real people, the metal "image" in all its splendid glory is goofy as hell too. Who cares. Versailles has the talent to back up whatever fashion choices they make, just like King Diamond... which I love.

I thought metal was about going against the grain, dressing up like 16th century maidens is as against the grain as you can get. yet somehow now a days if you dont have the requisite long badly-treated hair and fluffy beard, you are a weirdo somehow...

If that band had a tenth of the talent of the King Diamond band I wouldn't have said a thing. The fact that they are a bad band to my ears, and the mix of a silly image made it so easy for me to rip on them.

Cheese and image is a part of metal for sure, but when the gimmick overrides the talent it's not quite as cool. I love King Diamond ... cheesy image and all, but I think he's very talented, and I think he surrounds himself with good talent as well. Not everyone digs that falsetto, but you can't fault him for his uniqueness, creativity, longevity, etc.

To me is seems like Versailles is a media driven product. Musically it appears they have some competence, but the songs are lacking, and the vocals are very weak. They just hit me as mostly being all image driven. It comes off as a product instead of musical brilliance.

I just want to echo some of the points made here. As sh0kr0k knows, there are several of these type of bands that I like. I used to be very heavily into the genre a few years ago.

Having seen numerous Japanese VK bands live I can say quite confidently that AT LEAST 90% of them suck royally and don't have a single shred of talent.

The VK genre is very similar to idol culture in Japan. Its main appeal is to obsessed, horny teenagers/young-adults (girls instead of guys in this case). Careers are very short-lived. Image is more important than substance. Most bands don't last past the 3-year mark and virtually all that do drop any connection to the image/style of the scene. When you look at the scene as a whole and realize that EVERY musical style practically is represented in it it becomes very obvious that an overwhelming majority of the bands are adopting the style because it's the only way they can break through...making it a crude mockery of how the style got started in the first place.

I can't speak specifically about this band. It has some members in it that I know are pretty good but I honestly don't care for the genre anymore. Versailles is in at least the Top 1% for talent out of the current generation of bands in the scene though. Interpret that statement any way you like.

I like King Diamond...but I can't listen to more than a song or two without my ears bleeding.

Agreed. Couldn't agree more. Especially with that last paragraph.

I like what I hear from this JRock band. The vocals kind of come with the JRock territory though which is why I'm not bitching about it. I love their creativity.

Leave Shok alone for posting this Britt, there are people on this board that are excited about this band and genuinely glad she posted this. If you're not...your loss. :)

On that note... 3 cheers for being 'goofy' if that means making amazing music! Hip hip hooray! ;)

Well, I for one am excited. I'll see where I can get this from once it's released in North America instead of importing it.
I need to do the same thing because I'll want to tear into it as soon as I buy it. It's sure been a lesson in patience importing all this European metal and Japanese rock that I must wait for after purchasing. If you find a place that has it in stock, please let me know! There is a very good chance that Kinokuniya Bookstore will have it if there is a store near you.

im guessing you didnt have your headphones on when you listened to the youtube clip? :zombie:
im guessing you didnt listen to anything but the youtube clip? ;)

She's a smart enough gal not to be too bugged by my worthless little opinions ;)
Most of the time

For those interested in the CD, I found some more info! I found the tracklisting and discovered that "The Revenant Choir" will be included! Now it makes perfect sense why it wasn't on the mini-album; they were saving it for the first full-length. Also, there is a (small) picture of the cover art. Something about Kamijo getting ready to kill sleeping beauty makes me smile

The first pressing comes with a Region 2 DVD and a limited edition sticker and/or postcard.

Cheers! :headbang::headbang:

This band has "cheese" written all over it. They're goofy-looking. And they're only marginally talented.

Yet...

They're intriguing, in a Japanese shemale sort of way.

If an absence of cheese was required for metal to be any good, there wouldn't be many metal bands left standing. And talent, alone, isn't always a determining factor for whether or not I like a band. I think Dream Theater is one of the most talented bands on the planet. Yet, I can't stand 75% of their music.

I probably wouldn't have heard of Versailles if not for TZ's enthusiastic posts about them. I love discovering new bands. Sometimes part of the reason why I like some music is because it's odd or obscure. Much of today's folk-metal music (hailing from all points on the globe) is all that. And more.

So I'm willing to give Versailles a try. Thanks for the post, TZ!
