Victorian Gig Guide

That's a few gigs. Cool. :)

I'm trying to picture the Colonial Hotel (Psycroptic gig). I think that's the nice looking one where people go before the footy.

Hi... Perthian here giving you the heads up that we have a local-born band heading your way soon.

Voyager is a melodic metal band from Perth, and they are hitting your town on the 23rd of November... be there, and mill to some fine music!

From the website:
VOYAGER’s music is an extremely diverse venture, with melody and structure always being at the top of the priority list. Be it power, gothic, dark or even black metal music which the songs draw inspiration from, the end result is always a unique and tasteful interpretation. Virtuosity, neo-classicism, atmosphere and grooves are just some key terms which describe VOYAGER’s style of metal.

No Escape Records unleashes a total sonic avalanche of face ripping riffery and bone shattering blastbeats from 9 of the most destructive grindcore bands Australia has to offer, reducing The Corner Hotel to smouldering rubble on Saturday 26th January 2008!!

www.myspace.com/grindcore08
http://grindcore.noescaperecords.com

Adelaide’s old school grind heroes Captain Cleanoff bring back their infamously raging live show and circle pits galore for unrivalled Mosh Power and vicious aggression! Fuck…I’m Dead who have recently added a drummer and second guitarist to their patented gore grind thrash attack execute surgically precise but wholly unsanitary amputation procedures while The Day Everything Became Nothing inflict a far more bulldozing brand of punishment with a bottom end crush that is as tight and sharp as it is grooving and swinging. The Kill have returned from the dead after far too many years to once again punch out the fastest, most intense and most violent barrage of machine gun drumming, shrieking vocal terror and cyclonic shredding guitars you’ll ever be subjected to! Roskopp let loose their Frankensteinian crossbred mutation of chundering goregrind, rapid fire techy chops, deathly riffing and blast-ridden straight up grind, and Super Fun Happy Slide dish up a steaming and spicy serve of raw, old school Napalm Death worshipping gorecore replete with blazing solos, balls-out rocking and truly insane drumming of an ungodly velocity! Die Pigeon Die’s tidal wave of suffocatingly slimy, grimy and sick as all hell goregrind serves as a preview of the disgusting excretory ordeal you’re bound to go through after their bowel loosening subsonic atrocities! This also sees the long awaited return of Melbourne's sickest ever pure old school goregrind posse, Garbage Guts, who've been absent from the stage for almost 2 years and have all the filth, speed, catchiness and repulsion you could ever cope with!, and capping off the night on a low brow high note are the legendary Blood Duster whose STD-spreading hippie-killing turkey-slapping grind rock has provided the sleazy soundtrack to over a decade of debauchery and degradation for the drunkards and deviants of Melbourne’s seediest underbelly!!

Doors open at 7pm so get in early for a non-stop whirlwind of aural violence across 2 stages! 18+

The Bodycage Media, Thrash House Enterprises, Welkin Entertainment and Switcblade Music Productions Present:

Alarum & Frankenbok at the Arthouse June 13 with guests

Australia's premier prog metal sensation Alarum joins forces with melodic thrash pioneers Frankenbok, for a night of blistering metal set to paint the town 'brutal'!
Alarum have spent the past year writing for their 3rd opus 'Natural Causes' and will take a well earned break to play The Arthouse Hotel, Saturday June 13. Their technical/progressive jazz/fusion influenced style of thrash/death metal has continued to evolve over the years and has taken the band off shore performing with metal giants Dark Tranquillity, Necrophagist, Lamb of God, Testament, Job For A Cowboy and many more.

Co-headlining is the mighty Frankenbok. They return home to dish out their brand of old school southern styled thrash, after an extensive national tour for the first half of the year. Look out for the release of their 3 part DVD and a 6th album in late 2009.

NSW's premier metal band Switchblade have been stirring headlines recently after acquiring the talents of grammy award winning producer Neil Kernon (Nile, Cannibal Corpse) and guitar god Jeff Loomis (Nevermore) for their second album 'Invictus Infinitum'. The CD has been recieving rave reviews nationally and internationally and like the band, boasts an intense maturity unsurpassed on the Aussie front.

Melbourne's own female fronted thrashers Black Like Vengeance return for one show only this year as they commence their indefinate hiatus while they write for their full length album, 'Noir'. It is not only their crushing riffs, shredding leads but the haunting beauty and sheer brutality of front woman Sheri Tantawy's voice who puts many of her male and female contemparies to shame, stunning audiences across the country. BLV will bid farewell to one of it's original founding members Drew Hanley.

Opening the night will be young melodic thrash band Eye of the Enemy who shared a stage with Cradle of Filth on their recent Aussie tour. Their ferocious live performance will leave you wanting more.

Get into your best metal attire but be sure to leave your ego’s and your emo’s at home because Saturday June 13 is a night for pure undiluted metal!

House of Thumbs to launch at East Brunswick Club

streetposter2copysmall.jpg

houseofthumbscrossingth.jpg

Melbourne metal band House of Thumbs will be launching its latest album Crossing the Rubicon on March 5 at the East Brunswick Club in Victoria.
The launch is the culmination of a year-long production cycle that saw the band recruit Ren Reich (Reich Studios) to mix and master the 11-track work. Crossing the Rubicon is a concept album in which the central theme of cathartic revenge is woven not only into the lyrics but also through the band's art.

"It's about a mean little man who collects...well... thumbs," said guitarist Nick Lord on Triple J's The Racket recently. "It's violent. It's heavy and it's about doing what you want, when you want, because you want."
Already the album has received a positive reception, with pre-release tracks holding three of the top four spots on Triple J's Unearthed Metal Chart during January, and the band is expecting a sell-out, urging fans to arrive early.

Entry on the night costs $15 and special guests include Scale, Empty the Throne and Demonium. Doors open at 8 and early birds can take advantage of half-price CDs.
Visit www.houseofthumbs.com.au for more information.

SONIC FORGE
FESTIVAL

A CHARITY EVENT FOR ‘THE CENTER OF HOPE’, HAITI
SATURDAY, DECEMBER 4
@ THE ESPLANADE HOTEL, MELBOURNE

A true multi-stage, all day metal festival is something that Melbourne has been
lacking for quite a few years. No longer! SONIC FORGE FESTIVAL, featuring 32
of the best metal bands the Australasian metal scene has to offer, will take place
on December 4 at the Esplanade Hotel, run over 3 stages, and provide metal
fans with 12 hours of endless metal of the highest quality! Whether you like
your metal death, melodic, black, prog, grind, math, tech, core or other, there is
something for everyone and it’s all for only $15!

In addition to supporting and promoting the many great metal bands this
country has to offer, this event is also strongly centered around raising money
for ‘The Center of Hope’, an orphanage in HAITI. Many of us here in Australia
were overwhelmed at the destruction wrought upon this country when an
earthquake on January 24 of this year resulted in the deaths of more than
230,000 people, injuries to more than 300,000 & 1 million more left homeless.
This tragic event resulted in thousand’s of children being orphaned, and in
the process worsened a problem that already existed, in what is one of the
world’s poorest countries. Whilst much money has already been raised for
general disaster relief in Haiti, this event focuses on trying to help a particular
orphanage ‘The Center of Hope’, which has just opened its doors for the first time
in recent weeks. So in buying a ticket to this event you not only get to witness
the biggest local metal festival held in Melbourne for quite some time, you will
also be directly helping these orphaned children in Haiti & making a difference to
their lives.

We present to you the final line-up of bands for SONIC FORGE FESTIVAL 2010!
