It's from a long series of books called Sagan om Isfolket, by Margit Sandemo. Some info about it, and a list of the 47 books, can be found here (in Norwegian). As far as I remember, the character Vintersorg is the son of a pagan cheiftain, don't know in which book(s) he appears though.
