I'm packing the house in preparation for my move to the KC area. I am struggling to decide whether or not to pack my old cassettes and vinyl records, or ditch them somehow.

Does anybody still listen to these formats anymore? I s'pose the real question is whether I would. But, it got me thinking as to whether or not anybody else still routinely puts on an actual record anymore (beyond converting it to mp3). At least I don't have any 8-tracks laying around...! :guh:

I still listen to vinyl. I only buy older stuff on vinyl though, even though a lot of bands are releasing albums on vinyl as well these days (since its selling). Definitely keep your vinyl, or ebay it I guess if you don't want to lug it around. You can also buy a convertor to record from vinyl to digital.

Cassettes are worthless unless you have an old car with a tape player ;) Otherwise, burn what you want to keep, and ebay the rest imo.

I still buy vinyl once in a while. For example, I bought Sabaton's Art of War on vinyl.

It's the old school in me that likes vinyl.

I still have my old cassettes (the few that I actually bought). Most of my collection is in CDs. And now I may start to unload those (I have over 250 of those).

But the few pieces of vinyl, cassettes and (gasp!!) reel to reel - I cart with me on each move that I've made over the years. :goggly:

are the cassettes and vinyl you have available on another format? I have some vhs and cassettes that haven't ever been released another way so I still have them. Best wishes with the move.

Make a list and let me know what you have.
I might take some off your hands, before you leave Chi-town.

I know what you are going through.
At one point, I had well over 1,000 12"s, 10"s, and 7"s.
Pretty much all are gone now, through moving, etc.

I listen to my vinyl pretty regularly, but while I have a whole case full of cassettes (and a dual deck in my stereo), I pretty much don't ever listen to tapes.

When I moved from Sweden to Florida I made the decision to sell off all my vinyl (2000 +). It was extremely painful at the time but I have since really enjoyed buying back the stuff on cd. I still look back at the vinyl days with nostalgia though...

P.S I did keep all the Marillion vinyl and play the shit out of it every time I visit my folks back home...

I prefer vinyl for anything from the 60s, 70s, and 80s (it just sounds better) and I try to buy vinyl for newer stuff if it is reasonably priced and makes sense (Edguy on vinyl not necessary compared to retro bands like The Sword or Witchcraft).

I'm in Plainfield so let me know if you're looking to sell any records.

For those interested in the western Chi-town suburbs, I sold about 70 albums to a place called www.halfpricebooks.com in Countryside. This place is great....you can bring in books, mags, CDs, DVDs, VHS tapes, comics, etc and they actually give you cash dollars. I know a couple of you wanted me to let you know if I was selling anything, but there's just no time for me to deal with that right now. I'm moving next week....

I work about 5 minutes from that store and visit every week.

I stopped into today and picked up Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (gatefold) and Scorpions Tokyo Tapes. I'm going back for a couple Rush albums too....maybe they were yours?
