I jsut recently got into this amazing keyoboardist and i am trying to trace his history a bit.

He's the Yngwie of keyboards.

He's obviously really talented but his stuff bores me pretty quick.

As for Artension....for the most part i find the songwriting really average (though they do have a couple of killer songs)

To me, he is the only neoclassical shred guy who can actually make music that is almost soley based on his technicality and make it work. The compositional skills are certainly there as well. The guy's technique is absolutely incredible.

I think David Valdes does quite a good job too and Joe Stump's stuff is really fun to listen to, even if it isn't the most mentally challenging music. That kind of thing is great if you're running or cycling.

Anyone here know Katsu Ohta from Ark Storm? The opening track from his album The Right Brain Revolution is phenomenal.

For those into neo-classical power metal, I recommend Richard Anderson's Space Odyssey or Time Requiem projects. Personally I favour the former, but they're both very good. Some people call them prog, but in all honesty it's not especially progressive: it's just fast and fun metal.

I find his style pretty dull, both solo and Artension. It's the kind of thing that sounds really cool and impressive when you first listen, but quickly wears out.

But he has amazing technical skill, for sure.

I've heard a few Artension dealies, they kind of remind me of an average band with some blazing solos; unfortunately it got old quick. I've heard this Kuprij's solo stuff too, and yea he is quite the virtuoso.

I saw Richard Anderson's name mentioned in here, and I have only one of his band Time Requiem's albums The Inner Circle of Realities or something along those lines, I can't quite remember, but it reminded me of a synth heavy Symphony X. Some of Anderson's songs were so fun to listen to. But with both of these guys I can only handle so much at once without sort of the music getting blah.

He used to practice his piano playing 8 hours per day when he was a child. He is a concert pianist.
