Vlad in Tears- Seed of an Ancient pain

Vlad in Tears are once more back with a very HIM orientated Gothic album.
The cd will be released November 8th through DreamCell11/Spv/AuralMusic.
As you already guesed Vlad in Tears plays Dark-Gothic Metal in the vein of
HIM, Sisters Of Mercy and sometimes The Cure.
The production is okay very dark perfect for the Gothic scene.
Most of the songs from 'Seed of an Ancient pain' are good.
But their are some songs that are in my eyes kindda bad maybe this is because on
all the songs the vocals are the same (low voice and high voice at the same time)
after a couple of songs it's getting a little bit boring.
Listen to songs like "Back Theoreme"and "Woods of Madness" my favourites on this album

Denn die Italiener schaffen es mit ihrem Debüt "Seed Of An Ancient Pain", die typische Stimmung ihres Landes mit konventionellem Gothic Metal zu vermischen. Die Musik aus dieser Melange ist zwar einerseits dunkel, aber auch mit vielen positiven Zwischentönen versetzt. Und sie ist düster-romantisch bis in die letzte Note – wer solche Klänge nicht kitschig findet, kann also zugreifen.
Warum VLAD IN TEARS so funktionieren, lässt sich zum Beispiel mit Sänger und Keyboarder Kris erklären. Der androgyn wirkende Typ hat einfach eine gute Stimme, die ein wenig an HIMs Ville Vallo erinnert, aber doch einen sehr eigenständigen Klang besitzt. Außerdem sind die tränenreichen Vlad-Vampire um ein Höchstmaß an Abwechslung bemüht: Schon im Opener 'Reveal' ist das zu spüren, in dem sogar bunte Rummelmelodien auftauchen, allerdings nur so lange, dass sie nicht nerven. Zudem ist die rund 45 Minuten dauernde Scheibe exzellent produziert, was wiederum Extra-Punkte bringt. Meckern ließe sich allerdings über solche Halb-Balladen wie 'As Snow We'd Fall' oder 'Woods Of Madness': Solche Stück tragen zu hart auf, der Pathos kitscht nur so vor sich hin. Doch haben solche simplen emotionalen Attacken HIM-Fans früher auch nicht gestört – und musikalisch professionell kommen solche Lieder in jedem Fall daher. Damit lässt sich dem Debüt von VLAD IN TEARS ein guter Gesamteindruck attestieren, weil die Band eben an einer gewissen Eigenständigkeit arbeitet und dazu noch den Sinn für packende Melodien entwickelt hat. Ein dynamischer Song wie 'Dark Theoreme' ist dafür ein wunderbares Beispiel, weil gerade der Refrain so anrührend-rockig klingt als wären hier schon langjährige Profis am Werk. Dabei hat sich Band erst 2004 gegründet. Für ihr Debüt ist dem Quartett deshalb viel Glück zu wünschen. Mit coolen Gothic Metal-Nummern wie 'My Curse' sind sie auf dem richtigen Weg.

Gerade mal ein Jahr ist es her, dass die italienischen Gothic Rocker von VLAD IN TEARS ihr Demo "After The End" vorstellten, und schon melden sie sich nun mit ihrem Debut-Album "Seed Of Ancient Pain" zurück. Die vier Jungs bezeichnen sich selbst als eine Art Tribute-Band der finnischen Mannen vom HIM, die den Begriff Gothic Rock am Ende des letzten Jahrtausends neu definierten. Immerhin sind die Jungs ehrlich, dass muss man ihnen lassn.
Der Opener 'Reveal' beginnt vielversprechend mit einem Chor-Intro, doch schnell setzen die Gitarren ein und das Stück entwickelt sich zu einer Mischung, die sowohl musikalisch als auch gesanglich an ENTWINE und eben HIM erinnert. Leider nervt der verzehrte Gesang ungemein. Der Folgetrack 'Dark Theoreme' ist da schon überzeugender und auch 'Freedom From God' hat durchaus seine Momente. Irgendwie machen mir jedoch die Vocals von Sänger Kris zu schaffen. Bei Balladen wie 'Briar', 'Woods Of Madness' und vor allem 'As Snow We'd Fall' oder Midtempo-Stücken ('My Curse') kann er in den tiefen Passagen durchaus Punkte einheimsen und erinnert tatsächlich hier und da an Altmeister Ville Valo, doch sobald die Musik anschwillt und die Songs höhere Töne fordern, hat er es leider ziemlich verschissen. Sehr schade eigentlich, denn musikalisch gesehen sind VLAD IN TEARS bei weitem keine schlechte Band. Man weiß genau, welche Instrumente wo und wie eingesetzt Düsternis erzeugen können und mach
t von diesem Wissen bis zum Abwinken Gebrauch. Doch all das kennt man halt auch schon von einer Vielzahl von anderen Bands, die ihren Kompositionen wenigstens noch ihren eigenen Stempel aufdrücken - was man bei den Italienern leider schmerzlich vermisst.
Wer sein Leben jeglichen Gothic-Rock-Bands verschrieben hat und HIMische Balladen klasse findet, der wird wahrscheinlich auch an VLAD IN TEARS Gefallen finden, denn "Seed Of Ancient Pain" ist keineswegs ein schlechtes Album und beinhaltet sogar einige sehr hübsche Lieder. Doch im Endeffekt reicht es einfach nicht über das Mittelmaß hinaus, dafür ist man zu sehr auf große Idole fixiert. VLAD IN TEARS sind leider keine Tribute-Band, sondern einfach eine Kopie von Bands, die es letztendlich einfach besser können. Lediglich der Schlußtrack 'My Last Dawn', ein durchweg instrumentales Piano-Stück, lässt einen Schimmer von Eigenständigkeit durchblitzen. Davon bitte in Zukunft mehr.

Disco di debutto per i nostrani Vlad In Tears, band laziale dedita ad un gothic metal che non disdegna passaggi heavy e che ha come componente portante, una tra tante, un discreto uso del piano, come la conclusiva e bellissima “My Last Dawn” testimonia.
In generale il sound della band, ben prodotto, è pervaso da una malinconia di fondo, frutto di melodie ricercate, armonie vocali spesso teatrali, solo parzialmente mitigate da una sezione ritmica che spesso è dura, quadrata.
Bellissima “Dark Theoreme”, dove una voce maschile supporta l’altra femminile, dando vita ad una sorta di sinfonia oscura dove le tastiere hanno un ruolo imprescindibile.
“Woods From Madness” ha un motivo che ricorda qualche altro pezzo più famoso, ma la band è brava a nascondere le influenze e a risultare personale, in un pezzo intenso, emozionale, in cui il singer Kris offre una prova eccezionale. Lo stesso discorso può essere fatto per “See Through The Darkness”, in cui però la componente heavy è preponderante.
Tuttavia le canzoni migliori, quelle più propriamente gothic, sono alla fine del disco, ovvero “As The Snow We’d Fall”, “After The End” e la già citata strumentale di piano. Pezzi nei quali l’anima melanconica e decadente del quartetto laziale prende il sopravvento, disegnando fragili paesaggi, delicate armonie, struggenti e interminabili attimi nei quali la poesia raggiunge vette altissime.
Un disco sicuramente non eccellente, ma molto buono e che ci consegna una band il cui futuro è decisamente roseo.

Nach dem Erfolg von Within Temptation, Nightwish oder auch Xandria schießen Gothic Bands mit Frauen am Mikro wie Pilze aus dem Boden und man muss schon aufpassen, dass man die Spreu vom Weizen noch trennen kann, sprich den Überblick behält.
So auch bei Vlad In Tears, die mit "Reveal Dark" richtig symphonisch beginnen und dann in eingängigen Gothic Rock übergehen, wo eben die Stimme von Kris gut bis sehr gut ins Gewicht fällt. Die Lady singt sehr gefühlvoll und der Song ist auch mit mystischen Keyparts schön abwechslungsreich gehalten. Druckvoll mit Keys untermalt beginnt "Dark Theoreme", das auch richtig flotte Passagen hat und vor allem Kris' Stimme etwas härter und fordernder klingt. Viel auf Bass und Keys ist der Gothic Rocker "Freedom From God" ausgelegt, der meist nur im Chorus von Gitarren Riffs unterstützt wird. Das balladeske und ruhige "Woods Of Madness" passt gut in das Konzept der Band und mit mehreren Sängern wirkt das Lied gut auf einen ein. Wenn ich mir "Briar" anhöre, fühle ich mich wie auf Wolken, richtig schön symphonisch und bombastisch wirkt der Song, der auch mit einem starken Solo aufwartet. Wenn ich gerade von Solo rede, sollte man den Track "After The End" gehört haben, ein hammergeiles, phantastisches Solo in einer von Pianoklängen völlig romantisch gestalteten Ballade und auch "My Last Dawn" ist rein mit Piano gespielt.
Dies ist ein Gothic Album, das man getrost kaufen kann, denn Vlad In Tears sind nicht nur auf Weichspüler-Kopie aus, sondern bauen auch härtere Elemente der Marke Paradise Lost ein, die das Album eine Spur härter machen und sich vom nur kopierenden Rest abhebt.

The opening sequence of the album is like something out of a satanic horror flick, which is cool because I like that kind of stuff. The album quickly goes into a Victorian Gothic style that haunts you through the entire alum. And you will quickly realize why they call themselves a HIM tribute band. It’s a good album, not great, but still good. If you like this type of gothic rock music then you won’t find anything much better than Seed of Ancient Pain.
The album would be very at home as the soundtrack to Queen of the Damned or The Crow; it has that same darkness and the same sense of losing something dear. The song As Snow We’d Fall is a good example of this, with its gloomy melody and melancholy lyrics, a person of sensitive nature will be heartbroken just hearing it. My Last Dawn is a dark requiem with Kris, the vocals behind Vlad in Tears, on piano which he plays beautifully. It melodically describes the pain of knowing you’re never going to see the light of day, be it through death or some other unnatural means. My Curse is a tune that came straight out of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, for me anyway, complete with its gypsy-esque feel and piano. It is the story of lust and obsession, and the damnation that follows when we can’t control those impulses.
I really think these guys are very talented, and I am looking forward to hearing a lot from them in the future. This album is always in the CD changer at home and will be there for a while.

“Seed Of An Ancient Pain” ist das Debütalbum der seit 2004 existierenden italienischen Gothictruppe VLAD IN TEARS. Sowohl gesanglich, als auch musikalisch ähnelt die Band sehr stark den Finnen HIM oder ENTWINE. Voll und Ganz haben auch sie sich dem eingängigen und düsteren Gothicmetal verschrieben.
Gleich der Opener “Reveal” startet mit einem Chor, der zugleich den Auftakt zum bombastischen ersten Song bildet. Musikalisch gesehen kann VLAD IN TEARS sehr überzeugen, lediglich der Gesang wirft kleinere Schwächen auf. Vor allem die Songelemente mit den höheren Tönen machen Sänger Kris etwas zu schaffen. Trotzdem, von diesem Manko mal abgesehen, singt er doch in einer recht akzeptablen Liga.
Sehr schade finde ich jedoch, dass die Band keine wirklichen Innovationen in ihre Songs mit einbringt. Die Songabläufe sind fast immer vorhersehbar. Teilweise meint man sogar den einen oder anderen Song schon mal irgendwo gehört zu haben. Auch wenn die Songs gelungen sind, man hat sich eben zu stark an den Idolen ENTWINE & Co. orientiert.
HIM-Fans werden mit “Seed Of An Ancient Pain” aber vollends auf ihre Kosten kommen. Die Ähnlichkeit von Sänger Kris zu Ville Valo ist teilweise verblüffend. Wer eine neue Tributeband zu HIM sucht, wird hier fündig. Abzug gibt es lediglich durch die fehlende Originalität, da ja Großmeister Ville Valo hier schon vor etlichen Jahren sein Revier bestens abgesteckt hat.
Anspieltips wären vor allem “Woods Of Madness” oder das treibende und überaus stark an HIM erinnernde “My Course”, wobei man aber sagen muss, dass durchaus alle Songs auf ihre Art und Weise eine Daseinsberechtigung auf dem Silberling verdient haben. Einzige Kritikpunkte sind aber eben die fehlende gesangliche Transparenz in manchen Songpassagen, sowie die fehlende Innovationsfreude in den Songs. Abgesehen davon kann man “Seed Of An Ancient Pain” aber ohne weiteres jedem Gothicfan ans Herz legen.

“Seed Of An Ancient Pain” ist das Debütalbum der seit 2004 existierenden italienischen Gothictruppe VLAD IN TEARS. Sowohl gesanglich, als auch musikalisch ähnelt die Band sehr stark den Finnen HIM oder ENTWINE. Voll und Ganz haben auch sie sich dem eingängigen und düsteren Gothicmetal verschrieben.
Gleich der Opener “Reveal” startet mit einem Chor, der zugleich den Auftakt zum bombastischen ersten Song bildet. Musikalisch gesehen kann VLAD IN TEARS sehr überzeugen, lediglich der Gesang wirft kleinere Schwächen auf. Vor allem die Songelemente mit den höheren Tönen machen Sänger Kris etwas zu schaffen. Trotzdem, von diesem Manko mal abgesehen, singt er doch in einer recht akzeptablen Liga.
Sehr schade finde ich jedoch, dass die Band keine wirklichen Innovationen in ihre Songs mit einbringt. Die Songabläufe sind fast immer vorhersehbar. Teilweise meint man sogar den einen oder anderen Song schon mal irgendwo gehört zu haben. Auch wenn die Songs gelungen sind, man hat sich eben zu stark an den Idolen ENTWINE & Co. orientiert.
HIM-Fans werden mit “Seed Of An Ancient Pain” aber vollends auf ihre Kosten kommen. Die Ähnlichkeit von Sänger Kris zu Ville Valo ist teilweise verblüffend. Wer eine neue Tributeband zu HIM sucht, wird hier fündig. Abzug gibt es lediglich durch die fehlende Originalität, da ja Großmeister Ville Valo hier schon vor etlichen Jahren sein Revier bestens abgesteckt hat.
Anspieltips wären vor allem “Woods Of Madness” oder das treibende und überaus stark an HIM erinnernde “My Course”, wobei man aber sagen muss, dass durchaus alle Songs auf ihre Art und Weise eine Daseinsberechtigung auf dem Silberling verdient haben. Einzige Kritikpunkte sind aber eben die fehlende gesangliche Transparenz in manchen Songpassagen, sowie die fehlende Innovationsfreude in den Songs. Abgesehen davon kann man “Seed Of An Ancient Pain” aber ohne weiteres jedem Gothicfan ans Herz legen.

Nadat ik was bekomen van het lachen om de bandfoto, de belachelijke bandnaam en de titel van dit album ben ik toch maar eens gaan luisteren naar de songs van deze Italiaanse band. Ze omschrijven hun stijl zelf als gothic metal in de stijl van HIM, maar eveneens hoor je power metal (Labyrinth-achtig) en symfonische rock invloeden terug in de sound van Vlad In Tears.
De songs zijn op zich nog wel redelijk, maar wat is dit toch kitscherig, overdreven pathetisch en bombastisch. En het sfeertje dat ze zelf mooi weten te verwoorden als Italiaanse charme en romantica zou ik eerder het etiket slijmerige stroop geven. Ik denk dat ik gewoon een te vrolijke en realistische jongeman ben, en geen depressieve tiener, om mij in de muzikale wereld van deze Italianen te kunnen wentelen. Zo genoeg gepraat, en nu moet ik nooit meer aan Vlad In Tears denken. En zeker niet meer aan de vocalen en de pianokunsten van Kris. Wat is het leven toch mooi.

Others will have their fifteen minutes of fame and soon after this they are forgotten. In 2004 Kris, the founder of Vlad In Tears called in the help of his brothers and his best friends and his new band was a fact. Now they are working hard to claim the rockstar status they dream of, and last week I received the first full length album from Vlad In Tears, named 'Seed Of An Ancient Pain'.
According to the band itself, their music contains more elements and power than their own shining examples, HIM and Paradise Lost. After listening to this album I must say I cannot agree with them. Even though their record sounds quite nice, they need a lot more practise before I can even start comparing them to the names above. Not all the ten tracks are worth listening to. The recording is very simplistic, and this takes away the bombastic features that are used in 'Reveal' for example. 'Freedom Of God' is a very nice track, but the rest of the album cannot keep me interested. I am pretty curious if this band will be able to survive their first success. Vlad In Tears has a lot of potential, now it needs some more practise. A better mixing job should help as well.

I Vlad in Tears sono una band italiana composta dai tre fratelli Kris, Lex e Dario più il loro amico Xander. Nonostante questo sia il loro primo disco (dopo il demo "After the End"), la band ha già un nutrito seguito di ammiratori, molti dei quali conquistati tramite la pagina di MySpace. I VIT suonano un bel gothic metal, riuscendo a metterci del loro e rendendo la loro musica il più personale possibile. Il disco si apre con "Reveal", dall'incipit degno dei Nightwish, per poi continuare con altri due brani bellissimi come "Dark Theoreme" e "Freedom From God". Le melodie del cantato sono accattivanti e struggenti al punto giusto, senza sconfinare nello scontato; la voce di Kris, poi, si distacca dal prototipo dei cantante goth con la voce bassa, toccando anche note più alte (vedi "After The End"), il che rende il disco più vario. Man mano che il cd prosegue acquista sempre più spazio il pianoforte, come in "My Curse", "Briar", altra chicca del cd, e "After The End". "As Snow We Fall" è un altro dei brani da segnalare, con una melodia commovente, pianoforte, insomma un vero piacere per le orecchie! "After the End" ospita anche un bell'assolo di chitarra, ed è probabilmente il brano più completo del disco. In conclusione, questi VIT sembrano proprio destinati a fare strada e a conquistare i gothic fans. Un consiglio che mi sento di dare è quello di ascoltarli più volte prima di dare un parere, poichè questo non è un disco facile che conquista al primo ascolto.

Levyn alkupää on enemmän Kiteeltä kotoisin kuin Kalliosta, mutta loppua kohden Ville Valon varjo ryhtyy valtaamaan alaa. Italiaanot ovat saaneet aikaiseksi niin himimäistä musiikkia, että tuskin edes Valo itse kykenee tekemään sitä näin paljon itseltään kuulostaen. Se varmasti kuulostaa perin kummalliselta, mutta kokeilkaapa kappaletta As Snow Wed Fall. Siinä kuunnellessa olisi pornokaupiaan poikakin vähintään yhtä ihmeissään kuin Pihtiputaan mummo alan liikeessä käydessään.
Kaikesta kopioinnista huolimatta, tai ehkä juuri siksi, Vlad In Tears toimii melko hyvin. Mitään omaperäistä tästä bändistä on turha hakea, mutta genren harrastajille yhtye kelpaa varmasti.

Nungut, wie bereits erwähnt, wären sie da nicht die ersten... Nachdem ihr Demo und ihre Myspace-Seite (60.000 Hits in wenigen Monaten) bereits Aufsehen erregten, liegt nun ihr erster Longplayer Seed Of Ancient Pain vor. Und der ist absolut gelungen! Klar, die Einflüsse von Nightwish, Entwine oder HIM (alleine die Phrasierungen bei Woods Of Madness oder As Snow We´d Fall) sind nicht zu überhören. Jedoch bieten Klavier-Sound und eine Portion Drama (ein bisschen zuviel für meinen Geschmack bei After The End) die nötige Abwechslung. Ausserdem ist See Through The Darkness ein Hammersong, der alleine die Anschaffung der CD wert ist. Wer auf erwähnte Bands steht, liegt hier absolut richtig.

Seriously, these guys have more in common with the black-eyeliner Finnish Goth Rock bands than they do with the big Italian names (RHAPSODY OF FIRE, for example). One can hear more than a few shades of HIM on Seed Of An Ancient Pain, which is no surprise considering VLAD IN TEARS started out as a HIM cover band. As a result, dark melodies and heavy, jarring instrumental work are extremely prevalent on Seed Of An Ancient Pain.
The album kicks off with Reveal, a great song that sets the tone for the rest of the album, with its staccato guitar chords that ape the opening vocal riff. Dark Theoreme is pretty good, too, and Freedom From God has an awesome piano/guitar intro. Unfortunately, the second half of Seed Of An Ancient Pain doesnt live up to the excellent first half, but on the whole, the album contains some pretty decent material.
VLAD IN TEARS are the first Goth Metal band Ive enjoyed in quite some time. Fans of the genre, and especially of HIM, might want to give this Italian band a shot. Try it out!

As a result, dark melodies and heavy, jarring instrumental work are extremely prevalent on Seed Of An Ancient Pain.
The album kicks off with Reveal, a great song that sets the tone for the rest of the album, with its staccato guitar chords that ape the opening vocal riff. Dark Theoreme is pretty good, too, and Freedom From God has an awesome piano/guitar intro. Unfortunately, the second half of Seed Of An Ancient Pain doesnt live up to the excellent first half, but on the whole, the album contains some pretty decent material.
VLAD IN TEARS are the first Goth Metal band Ive enjoyed in quite some time. Fans of the genre, and especially of HIM, might want to give this Italian band a shot. Try it out!

Gotycki metal to kierunek w muzyce dość specyficzny. Jest to bowiem szuflada mieszcząca wiele różnych grup. Z jednej strony takim graniem nazwiemy pierwsze płyty Tristanii i Theatre Of Tragedy z drugiej zaś granie pokroju Nightwish czy Sirenia. Mimo, iż Vlad In Tears nie gra ani jak TOT, ani tym bardziej jak Sirenia to i tak mieści się w kategorii gotyckiego metalu, co tylko potwierdza dużą przestrzeń tego pojęcia.
Spokojne, klimatyczne i chyba trochę za bardzo eksploatowane klawisze, wokal przywodzący na myśl Ville Valo z HIM, oraz prosta rockowa sekcja rytmiczna opatrzona mało odkrywczymi aczkolwiek dynamicznymi riffami - tak właśnie w skrócie wygląda muzyka zawarta na Seed Of An Ancient Pain. Słuchanie tego krążka nie jest jednak takie proste i przyjemne jak mogłoby się wydawać. Po pierwsze, album niesamowicie się dłuży, gdzieś tak w okolicach 6 utworu ma się ochotę wyjąć CD z odtwarzacza. Szkoda, że tak się dzieje, tym bardziej, że na samym początku słucha się tego całkiem miło. Może trochę zbyt patetycznie użyto klawiszy w "Reveal" i "Dark Theoreme", jednak już numer "My Curse" pozytywnie zaskakuje właśnie ich dźwiękami, świadczącymi w tym wypadku o sporej dozie przebojowości. Kończąc te wywody na temat muzyki można powiedzieć, że "Seed..." to materiał na średnim poziomie.

Raczej nie wyobrażam sobie, żeby ktokolwiek sięgnął po materiał, na froncie którego widnieje zdjęcie czwórki bliżej nie sprecyzowanych pod względem płci osobników w mocnym makijażu ubranych w gotyckie fatałaszki.
Podsumowując - włosi z Vlad In Tears przygotowali materiał tylko i wyłącznie dla sympatyków gotyckiego rocka/metalu pokroju cięższych dokonań HIM. Zainteresowanym takimi dźwiękami stanowczo polecam innym z taką samą stanowczością odradzam.
