Is absolutely stunning...anyone know any details? I don't remember seeing any in the other threads about the album.

Agreed, I'd love to know some of the details. Obviously Jonas' voice plays a huge role, but beyond that, the tracker/mixer handled everything flawlessly...

I'm partial to the drum sound on this. Very roomy and fat - lots of new york on the snare. Cool record.

Funny, that's the only thing I can't stand on this. Whereas the reverb and ambience on everything else is amazing, on the drums it leads to them being (imo) tubby, muddy, plastic. Although I don't know what else would really have fit.

Honestly I wouldn't think there's a LOT going on with the vocal production. A great singer, a good mic and compressor and some subtle delays and reverbs. I think its more the synths and the wall of sound of guitars/bass that add to the feel of the album.

There are a few bits on Ayreon's 0101010101 DVD that show Jonas singing (he sings very quietly) which might be illuminating.

It's always impressed me how the vocals on Katatonia records are sung so quiet, but never lose intention or intonation (yeah autotune blahblah). It's a very hard thing to do. Obviously very talented! Unfortunately I don't have anything else to add to the thread. Just another fan!
