On the occasion of the 2025 Graduation Ceremony to be held on April 26, the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi (UQAC) will pay tribute to three exceptional personalities who have marked the cultural landscape. Three honorary distinctions will be awarded: two honorary doctorates, one posthumously to actor Michel Côté and the other to the music group Voïvod, as well as an honorary medal to journalist Daniel Côté.
The group Voïvod, a progressive metal legend from Jonquière, will receive an honorary doctorate causa in recognition of its exceptional international career.
Born in Jonquière near a large aluminum factory in 1983, Voïvod has forged a place among the greatest metal bands in the world, with more than 1,250 concerts to its credit, 763 album versions and collaborations with icons such as Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne, Rush and Faith No More. Their unique universe, inspired by the industrial landscapes of the region, has seduced millions of fans around the world.
Recognized as one of the greatest metal bands on the planet and acclaimed by millions of fans, Voïvod has influenced the music world for more than 40 years, while its members remain faithful to their community and their authentic artistic quest.
By awarding these honorary distinctions, the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi celebrates the exceptional careers of recipients. These tributes are part of a desire to recognize those who enrich the collective soul of Quebec.
