Drummer Michel "Away" Langevin of Canadian metal innovators VOIVOD spoke to the Edmonton Sun about the band's new song "We Are Connected", which was released last month on a split single with AT THE GATES."We're back in prog-rock mode," he said. "Especially the new single, it's shameless prog rock."We still try to keep it thrash metal, though. I try to keep the double kick going just so it's punky. We won't forget the roots, that's for sure."Langevin also talked about VOIVOD's long-in-the-works official documentary, which is being helmed by Sam Dunn of production company Banger Films ("Metal: A Headbangers Journey", "Rush: Beyond The Lighted Stage"). All the footage for the film has been shot and compiled, but it has yet to be edited, a process which will take time and money."Everything with VOIVOD takes a long time," Langevin said. "It's all self produced and underground."VOIVOD and NAPALM DEATH have joined forces for a North American tour, aptly dubbed "Through Space And Grind", in January/February.VOIVOD last summer tapped Dominic "Rocky" Laroche to play bass for the band following the departure of Jean-Yves Thériault (a.k.a. Blacky). Laroche, who previously performed with blues musician Steve Hill, made his live debut with VOIVOD on July 12, 2014 at Festival Jonquière En Musique in the group's former hometown of Jonquière, Quebec, Canada. VOIVOD on July 11, 2014 released a statement claiming that Blacky "decided to leave the band for his own personal reasons."
