Im considering getting a modified 6505 from these guys -

The audio samples sound impressive (even though his playing is a bit ropey). I nearly jizzed when i heard that low end growl on the Drop-C open note -

So do you guys think its worth it? Or just buy a standard 5150?

Now I've heard that these amps are known to be buzzy and noisey.

Anyways, I'm good with a soldering iron and could also change the OP/IN/Choke Transformers myself and probably save a few quid but i there seems to be no info on any mods for it besides the Bias Mod.

Let me put it this way- of all the countless albums and great recorded tones I've heard with a 5150/6505, none of them were modded. Take that for what it's worth.

personally i wouldn't do it, only reason i haven't bias'd my 6505+ is because im still trying to find an irish dude to do it to save me the shipping. other then that im happy to not fuck with near perfection (Note: NEAR)

Cool, thanks for the info guys.

I do feel that its a bit pricey so i'm veering towards a stock 6505 (with bias mod).

Im a big fan of the Adam D production guitar sound (Killswitch) and especially like the tone he got on the newest Parkway Drive "Horizions" album. I nearly 100% sure its a 5150 + Framus Cobra through mesa cab V30's on that album.

In regards to tubes what would you guys recommend for an upgrade? Does anyone have any info on what tubes Andy Sneap / Adam D use in the 5150's?

I also stumbled across this interesting set-up - http://www.eurotubes.com/euro-kc.htm (Anyone try it?)

Thanks,

Haha, yup, or of course the Penta Labs 12AX7's (the best of the Shuguang 9th gens relabeled), old faithfuls :D
