Vortex Whoring.

Vortex always sounds good. Btw, is the new borknagar album out yet (or otherwise leaked)? I'm hoping Urd will be good, but if it isn't we know what people will be calling it

Downloading this album now. I'm still on the Century Media radio promo mailing list from the Metal Shop days, and they offer up all their new release promos digitally now. So it's 100% legal! I'll take that :D

This might be the album of the year. Wish there were some Youtube links to post.

Every song is SO good except Roots.

The Beauty of Dead Cities is so beautiful, In A Deeper World is so chilling, The Earthling is so fucking evil sounding.

It's the best album ever made.

That's a little extreme. It's most definitely not the best album ever made.

It is, however, a very good Borknagar album. Finally they do something that has more than one decent song on it. And yes, I'm talking about Quintessence as well.

Vortex has done a great job and seems to have lived up to his name, because for over a decade he has put the "meh" in metal. It looks like he got off his ass and stopped letting all his fanboys fellate him for putting out mediocre bullshit and actually did something nice. Well done.

Chris, what'd you think of the cover of My Friend of Misery? I love how they kept the original mood of the song, but still managed to spice it up a lot. Usually I hate covers in general, but they made their take on this one extremely interesting and unique without ruining it.

Excellent cover. They managed to keep the original feel of it but actually improved on the vocals, which is a hard thing. The Black Album had some of the best vocals in metal history.

I do prefer the original bass sound, however. Was much more doomy.

In my opinion, this is tied up with Quintessence and Origin as the best album ever made. Vortex has never done wrong outside of joining Dimmu Borgir.

My only complaint on this album is Vintersorg, he isn't necessary anymore. Simen and Lars are clearly far better singers. He's the reason Mount Regency, Roots, and that other song are so forgettable. Although, he is amazing on The Earthling, and he still has some of the best grim vocals around.

I have listened through this album only twice, but my opinion up to this point is that this album has the best vocals of any other Borknagar album. The music on every track is very solid (except maybe Roots). I don't know how I would compare this with their other albums, but I definitely believe it is one of their better works. Vortex and Lars sound great. Epic, Epic, Epic! :D

Album of the year? You guys must be on drugs. The new Borknagar is a pile of crap just like their last albums going back 10 years to 2002. Boring and bland. Too bad, because they once had promise. Don't take my word for it, just listen to it yourselves. There are literally no memorable moments whatsoever and the songs are much, much to short. Total let down. Empiricism was the last good record they made.
