I haven't heard much except a few songs with Mikael Akerfeldt and Michael Romeo, and they sound pretty good. Very experimental band, and that's a very good thing.

I really like Into the Electric Castle but The Final Experiment is my fav.
Star One was one hell of an amazing gig, maybe you'd like to check that out, too. Other project then Ayreon, same concept writing and a bunch of diverse musicians. The mellow, off-rock projects he writes aren't exactly my cup of tea.
In the waaay early days, he used to play in Vengeance.

Lucassen comes up with amazing projects and concepts...sometimes the music doesn't meet the rest of my expectations, and sometimes it is amazing...I can't wait for the new band project with that Mexican chick who was in Human Equation.
i downloaded a few songs from the newest album. the one with the guy from dream theater is decent...its got a cool vocal line near the end of the song. but yea, first impressions...the music isnt all that great.

The Universal Migrator is my favorite. Human Equation is great but falls a little flat for me at times.
Star One was good, very good.
I really like alot of Arjen's arrangements and use of the old keyboard sounds.
Overall he writes some amazing tunes.

Ayreon is one of my absolute fav's. Actual Fantasy is incredible, especially the remixed version in 5.1 Dolby DTS, sounds freakin' killer! The guy is a musical genious, and very underrated by the music community at large. I'm just glad that he has been able to get some big name musicians on there, as it goes to show he's definately a musicians musician 
Russell Allen always sounds great in Ayreon and Star One, Damian Wilson is awesome, James Labrie kicked ass on it, all his singers he gets are just amazing.

I pretty much agree with all that. I think when I said the music was underwhelming at times, I was confusing the schizophrenic (sp) nature of the different singers....that's why I think the new one will have a more focused approach.
