Why does the film start off dead good and then turn into the wizard of oz right at the end?

I am glad that they didn't turn Tom Cruise's character into some genius over night when it came to figuring out what to do with the aliens.

I am glad that they kept with what happened in the book but that part of the ending seemed alittle rushed.

I also didn't care for that little bit of cheesy ending.:Smug:

Well the ending was still rather tragic I think. I mean, he's standing there, realizing that he killed a man to save his daughter. That, and the gun he brought was used to kill another. That's like 1.5 kills that he's responsible for.

I just don't get how his son survived.

Also, needed Tom Waits.
