literally give me the shits about having to raise my kids in the USA.

No kidding, I don't know how some of you Amerikkkans grew up going to school here. Remember back in the late 90's when every other week there was a school shooting?

Fuck.

Also, it would be cool if Charlton Heston got shot dead one day, just because irony rules.

JK ... try to get KEN PARK ... that will make you move out of the US for sure ...

These films are more "horrific" than any conventional horror film IMO, simply because they're 'real'. And yeah, Bully is worth seeing. I've seen it once and I will never watch it again.

on the other hand, I don't think it has to do with the US per se ...
looking at these films and from news stories where all this shootings always go down ... you always have a real boring suburban lower/middle class background behind it.

this is why this rhetoric of small quaint towns and fear of socializing (sometimes very prevalent on this board) is really freaking scary more so than living in a big bad city.

Meh, I was in high school during that time. It wasn't bad where I was. If there as any bullying I never saw it. Though there was one time a kid said he'd bring a gun to graduation and kill some people if he failed a class and wouldn't graduate. The teacher was later overheard saying he was currently failing. The police had a talk with him.

I was extremely quiet in most of my classes, sat in the back, read books, etc. After every school shooting the teachers would give us little lectures and ask if we had any questions. Many of them made sure to keep eye contact with me as this went on, as if directing it at me. I didn't appreciate that. :erk:

in high school I:
- was threatened with a gun (for the purpose of fear)
- stabbed
- swarmed
- general bullied all around

part of why I mistrust everyone. That said, i'm just fun.

@thanatopsis, we never got lectures, but I was the quiet guy too.

I was bullied all through elementary school and treated like shit by most of my high school, but I never let it bother me too much, and I don't really care that people did it. Why make that kind of shit important enough to myself that it dominates my life? Easier to just let it slide.

damn andrew that's pretty intense...i was in 6th or 7th grade when columbine happened, i remember i was always one of the "weird kids" and all the other kids were assholes but i never got beaten up or anything

"I literally shat my pants!
Oh my god, what did you do?
What?
About the shit in your pants!
I didn't actually shit my pants, I literally shit my pants.
...
When you misuse the word 'literally,' you COMPLETELY fucking misuse it. When you fuck that up, you fuck it up so bad! It's not like a little goof, like you said 'penultimate' and you meant 'ultimate.' You COMPLETELY fucking misuse it, and you should stop using the word FOREVER until you fucking figure it out!"

sorry, david cross has a point though

Yeah it's not so great.

Is Elephant that one about the school shooting? If so, that's not a good movie at all... so terribly done.

Haha, of the many criticisms aimed at Elephant that isn't one that I hear often. It's unusual indeed, but all the 5+ minute shots, for most people, seem to be its saving grace. It's what makes it so believable and the impact so great. The acting is a bit hit and miss, but then they're all really high school students, so it's to be expected. In terms of cinematography, however, I think Elephant is really quite an achievement. Just my two cents

for me to poop on :loco:

Van Sant took such a nosedive with his latest flicks ... Elephant ... and the totally horrible, I don't even remember the title, Kobain ripoff story.

Last Days was indeed a steaming pile of shit. I'm sure it evoked wonderfully what it was like for KC just before he committed suicide, which was admittedly his aim, but that doesn't make for a good movie.

I thought Elephant was very good, however. Apart from the stupid computer game comparison it didn't try and pin the blame on much, just convey how a normal day at school for a load of kids went really wrong.
