Hero - omg, fucking amazing. blends elements of Japanese cinema akin to Kurosawa's Rashomon with Crouching Tiger's epic scope, scenery and soundtrack. the action sequences weren't all totally amazing, but the use of color was brilliant.

Invincible - good story, some very interesting ideas, but as is often the case with Herzog, the acting is flat. However, Tim Roth is the exception. Decent overall, not a bad film to watch over two afternoons.

Hero is available from Nicheflix and probably ebay, but is blocked for legit US DVD release because Miramax owns that shit and might release it in theaters at some point. it's definitely good enough that it wouldn't surprise me, as opposed to Zu which is too weird and asian for most US audiences IMO.

dude, it's still awesome. the more I think about it, the more I'm kind of bummed on most of the action, but the story is great. it really reminds me a lot of Rashomon more than CTHD. most people are gonna think CTHD because of the scenery and music than anything else. And Zhang Ziyi has only has a small part. it's much more Jet Li's show.

And yes, the trailer is not a very good representation of the movie. I posted this in another thread, but I thought it would be very similar to Kill Bill or a Jet Li vs. The World type movie but instead it's pretty similar to Rashomon and has no similarities with KB. And it's no Jet Li vs. The World movie. I mean, it was cool enough to make me want to see it, but yeah.

Why is Hero being compared to Kill Bill? The former movie has nothing to do with Quentin Tarrantino other than the fact it's brought over to the States by him.

Hero rocks, btw. Worthy of note: Cinematographer is esteemed Christopher Doyle. That guy OWNS every film he has a hand in (Wong Kar Wai films, recent Thai film LAST LIFE IN THE UNIVERSE, etc..).

watched Kiss of the Dragon, a Jet Li / Bridget Fonda movie. not bad, not great. decent action film that was supposedly in Paris but could've been in a studio with like 3 canned Paris shots.
50 cent movie rentals tonight, dragon theme.
Next: Twin Dragons, with Jackie Chan. looked for Enter the Dragon, but was denied.

i'm on a foreign setting kick lately.
