someone made some friendly overtures last week and i found it very unexpected—or was i interpreting something wrongly?

oh, you know, it's like during WWI when the English and German soldiers would take a break from lobbing mustard gas canisters at each other and crawl out of the trenches on Christmas Day to play footie and eat suckling rat together.

that reminds me of a description of a story in one of the old-time marvel (or pre-marvel) monster/sci-fi anthology comics that i had read in a book; that alone i can't can't even remember. danse macabre by king, most likely. (which i used to consider one of my favorites.)

and it had something to do with a bunch of US astronauts stranded on a hostile planet, facing various dangers and getting trailed by strange inhabitants who always sort of kept their distance. the dudes wind up holing up behind a rock and the ETs throw an oblong object @ them. most of the guys think it's a grenade or explosive but one quickly points out that it's a crudely carved xmas tree. it's dec 25th. peace is made.
