just found out by accident about this killer documentary named "West Coast Theory" about the US rap scene (mostly West Coast), focussing on the artistic/production/industry-oriented aspects of it, which is an awesome thing to watch and learn from even if you're not into rap :

p.s : by the way there are plenty of parts with Christian Olde Wobbers (former Fear Factory bass then guitar player) AKA Edgecrusher since he got into the LA hip hop producing thing a while ago

Finished watching it, the bonuses are sick too. Especially the one where "Segal" explains how producers work in the studio and gives a pretty thorough and easy to understand explanation fo the following : tracking, outboard effects, mixing consoles, etc...

Applies to music production in general and not only rap.

The free videos on vimeo looked kinda cool. But paying 4 bucks to rent it and the fact that it's only viewable windows is pretty lame.

It's really good, the dvd happened to be on the dvd shelf in my living room, thanks to my roommate

I'd rent it for 4 bucks tho'.
