I'm looking for metal, or music in general, that follows the example of the tracks posted below. My primary interest is that they have that characteristic "American Midwest" feel.

Elmer Bernstein - The Magnificent Seven

Nightwish - Creek Mary's Blood (orchestral version)

I prefer the version with the Native American chanting, but I couldn't find one on youtube that features him without Tarja and isn't terrible quality.

Nightwish - Last of the Wilds

Heh, that's like one of the only good songs on 'Once'.

When you say 'western', or 'American Midwest' feel, I think of kind of old Americana or atmospheric stuff, or stuff with a gunslinging kind of feel if you know what I'm trying to say..... the latter being songs such as:

Then things such as the former...the last two Earth albums have been that way..

Maybe you'd like this song?:

I'm just really not completely sure... probably because I just usually feel something different with the term...but I sort of see what you're getting at, with the big string and horn section, and the slightly sorrowful sort of..hmm....will keep looking

Thanks for the suggestions. The Earth song definitely has the "western" feel that I was looking for, although I was hoping for something more orchestral. I'm glad you posted it though, because it reminded me of that "Ghost Riders in the Sky" song. After looking it up on youtube, I was overwhelmed by the number of versions by different artists, so I chose the best quality instrument version that I could find.

But I couldn't resist posting the Johnny Cash version

Also, I don't know why I didn't think of this until now, but here's a classic spaghetti western theme.

The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

Here are a couple of other theme songs that, while not from western movies, convey a very "western" feeling to me.

Pirates of the Caribbean

Indiana Jones
