i gave a speech in speech class today and it didn't go over to well. being the delightful little heretic that i am, i gave a speech on how stupid and self centered christmas is (i kept religion out of it for the most part and focused on x-mas's commercialization). needless to say, the majority of the class was pretty pissed by the time my closing statement rolled around. i think about a dozen people said that they couldn't wait to see me burn in hell. it's all good though, my teacher thought it was very observant, not to mention hilarious.

so what are your thoughts on christmas? i'll leave it to you people to start it.

I'm not very fond of Christmas. I dislike the holiday, I dislike the commercialism, and I overall dislike it. No other religious holiday gets so much recognition. It's gotten to the point where many people think of you as wierd if you don't celebrate Christmas and are not Jewish.

I have to admit, my dislike of the popularity of Christmas stems from it's religious nature. Even though Christmas seems to have mostly gone from a celebration of Christ's birth, to a hyper-commercialized American tradition.

I know this next statement will sound hypocritical after what I just said, but I celebrate Christmas because it is the one day of the year when my family is all together and... happy. It's practically the only happy moment I have with my relatives, so I celebrate it for that sake.

I hate Christmas. It's completly stupid and such a Hallmark holiday. My mom and I don't even observe it. She's Bhuddist, so I get stuff on New Years instead.

Nice job on the report, by the way. We had to do a biography report once. I did it on Marilyn Manson (mostly to shock people). When I presented it in class everyone called me evil afterwards. It was wondeful.

I have nothing against christmas. I get gifts from parents and relatives, Great food and no school, Life is good :)

I LOVE christmas. Food, beer, presents (a whole lotta cd's of course) and on and on...

Too commercial for my taste? Nah. I think it's just brilliant how it trivializes the religious aspect of the season

Am I the only Metalhead who happens to like some aspects of christmas? I enjoy the holiday season to be honest, always have. It dosn't really both me at least...

what a releif, i was half expecting the same reaction here as i got in class. good to know that others see christmas as the overrated, consumer-fest that it has become. and i know what you mean, belial, i too only celebrate because of family. wouldn't it be great if we threw the religious bullshit and the materialistic gorging out the window and just had it be a chance to be with people close to you?

and nice job on the manson report, jayde. its quite funny to see how people deal with controversial subjects. and its only made more humorous when people condemn you to hell  i can't beleive some of those kids, you should've heard the stuff that spewed from their mouths.

i love christmas, i dont care if it is commercial, it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside..or is that just the sherry :D its one of the few times of year that people forget how shit their lives are and actually put a little more effort into trying to be nice to each other, surely that cant be bad, even if it is fake, it still makes a nice change from the rest of the year, i'll take the fantasy over reality anyday, and i always remember the story of how during WW1 the british and german soldiers climbed out of their trenches on christmas day, they forgot about war and played a friendly game of soccer with each other, then the next day they were back to killing each other, its just a pitty that people dont treat each other the same for the other 364 days a year...

Thanks. This one girl told me that I was going to go to hell and that the flesh would be ripped from my bones. I just laughed at her and she got all mad. My teacher gave me an A on it though.

Yep Morningrise, I'm totally with you on that one. Christmas is a great holiday...don't know why so many hate it :err:

Just had a glass of glögg (mulled wine), mmmm. That's christmas for ya!

:headbang:

Xmas is never too much fun with our family since one of my Sisters croaked on Xmas eve about 10 years ago.

It's my Dad's birthday, so we tend to concentrate more on that. This year I'll be going to my oldest Sister Anne's place for dinner, then a 2 hour drive to Mrs_B's folks in the evening.

I'm already practising my "Socks? Just what I always wanted!" face.. :)

I love the whole season from Thanksgiving til New Years. I agree with Scytheman when he says it's kinda funny the way this sacred holiday is ruined with commercialism. personally, i just see it as a big year-end celebration. sure, it's annoying that people need a reason to be nice and giving, but in a way, that's what makes it more fun. if people were jolly year-round, xmas wouldn't be quite as special, lol. but i think people should leave their xmas lights on their houses year-round (assuming they're not tacky). :D the last few years i've noticed that i'm finally enjoying giving presents more than receiving. i wind up spending waaaaaay too much on other people, but i just really get into it. y'all know how anti-religious i am, and yet, i don't even connect our modern-day christmas with its religious roots. we don't go to church on xmas eve, we don't have mary, jesus or angels on display. it's just about food, gifts, family and friends. i love it.

When I presented it in class everyone called me evil afterwards

Ahh, high school...where no one liked me and everyone thought I would snap and kill everyone. I almost got expelled once for telling a guy who was fucking with me that I was going to rip him in three and drink his blood   I did it while wearing a shirt that reads "your god will be destroyed"...needless to say no one really fucked with me after that little incident, though everyone called me the "evil one" to distinguish between me and my twin...

Hate Christmas. Hate the commercialism, hate the way it isolates people who don't have families and aren't involved in some church group, hate how it results in so many poor trees getting chopped down, hate all the bgarbage created by packaging and wrapping paper and gift boxes, and I hate the onslaught of obnoxious relatives.

that's how it is with me, everyone thinks I'm gonna kill them. So they tend to be very nice to me, to my face anyway......It's all very amusing to me, and it works to my advantage most of the time. Even some teachers are a bit afraid. My friends don't get why everyone's afraid because they know that I'm actually very nice once you get to know me and you've earned my respect (I know that sounds egotistical). I always get the best seats in class, though :D

yeah. I love trees. When I was little and I was forced to be Christmas-ish, I always made them use a plastic tree.

I agree in full with bleedingskeptic. I think all that christmas has become is revolting. I can't stand the obsession with getting gifts, the children expecting things, the mass returning the day after, the pointless cards that are just formalities, the stupid traditions like trees and lights, and lastly everyon expects you to conform to it!!

I have also been thought a satanist before. People thought I would put a curse on them or something, so I was never picked on. Works for me.

I don't care about Christmas... I just see it as an opportunity to have some lazy days during my favourite season :)
but the general atmosphere makes me feel sad....
and I don't like the family meeting we have every 25th Dec and 1st Jan.My uncle will surely be there talking his bullshit about how i waste my life studying psychology and how wasted i will feel when I'll be unemployed... Very encouraging, thank you uncle....

The only think I like is that our town is so full of lights (especially this year) and I love walking here and there at night in the cold....

Glögg is cool!!
