Curiosity...

I love those PRS' the Opeth boys use. And those Peavey 5150's....I got to record with one of those and I totally didn't think of using my amp the whole time.

As far as what I have goes:

-Guitars-
1. Modified Strat (originally a crappy squier, replaced pickups, changed pickup setting to gibson settings, replaced neck with American Standard Strat Deluxe Ed. neck)

2. Schecter A-7 Diamond Series (black, same used as Jack Owen of Cannibal Corpse on the 2000 tour)

-Amps_
Fender Roc Pro 1000 combo
(gets the job done, not bad for $300)

-Effects-
I used to be Tom Morello Jr., but lately I haven't been using anything except for a rack delay. I've traded a bunch of my pedals...here's what I have left:

I hate Metal Zones. I could never get a good sound out of those damn things...

They're decent for bedroom wanking and practicing, but they're the most horrible crap for playing live or with a band. They have absolutely no balls, they just sound like harsh buzzsaw that doesn't cut through the mix whatsoever.

Which is interesting, since Opeth used Metal Zones on Morningrise....

Yeah, Brooks...I'm fucking sick of my metal zone. What would you recommend for a solid distortion?

I'm thinking I'll get the best distortion by buying a good head...I'm investing in a stack soon. Any thoughts?

I'd swear by my Zoom Tri Metal pedal. Heavy as fuck, and really built solid, not like your regular Zoom plastic piece of crud.

Seriously, the best distortion you can get comes from a cranked tube amp. I've yet to see a pedal that can even come close to emulating that. If you ARE going into the realm of the almighty Tube Amp, I suggest these (each moving up in price, starting with the cheapest)

Laney VH100 (not too expensive, great tone... and hey, Opeth use em)

vintage Marshall JCM800 (add a Super Overdrive, and this thing kills... THE sound of the Bay Area Thrash movement)

Peavey 5150 (but try it first, not everyone digs this thing, including me, I'm not a huge fan)

Mesa Dual Rectifier

Bogner Uberschall (GODLY gain)

Diezel VH4, or the forthcoming Herbert (even GODLIER gain)
