What to expect on a first show?

I have never been to a metal concert and I was wondering what to expect for my first show? Any good tips or warnings?

Just try to get there early so you can get a spot right up to the stage or barrier if they have one. If you just want to get a good view and focus on the show instead of moshing or whatever, that's the best spot. If you do get a spot there, just be prepared to be heavily pushed against the stage/barrier.

I hope I don't get killed lol but it's going to be a lot of fun gonna get really drunk before the show

Don't be surprised if your ears are ringing the next morning, the longest I've had with ears ringing after a concert was a week.

Also if it's tightly pact move with the crowd as people will push a lot, it's normal to lose your friends and end up in completely different locations just standing and listening. Unless it's just the 1 guy behind you being a dick then you can hold your ground. Keep the crowd surfers up (some will fall on your head if you're not paying attention), and help up anyone who falls. Also definitely try out moshpits they're loads of fun, even if it looks like some of the guys in there could rip you in half if they felt like it.

All good advice. You can wear ear plugs to avoid ringing ears (and permanent ear damage) and still hear the music without any problems. I wish I'd done that a bit more often when I was younger...

Not a good idea. You can get drunk at home. No point in going to a show if you aren't in your right mind. But do what you want.

It's surprisingly easy to get up in the front row if you're aggressive about it. Also, not hard to hold your place there. And the front row kicks ass. I was in the front row at a Megadeth gig in a small venue...:headbang:

Don't drink too much, because getting out to go to the bathroom may not be too easy.
Don't worry about being killed. It won't happen, as long as you don't say anything stupid, like "Bon Jovi!!!"

If you are tall and in the front row, let me tell you from experience that you will be kicked in the head repeatedly by crowd surfers.

I'm curious to know as well, never been to a live show before, but with Satyricon having a new album out next year, I'll do my best to go to one of their US tour shows, especially if they come to Nashville. Are there any tips on meeting the bands themselves after shows?
